Last week we spent a few days in our Rpod 180 at American Forks camp ground located at the forks of the American and Bumping Rivers on Chinook Pass in Central Washington State.  I started a 31 year career working for the US Forest Service in 1968 and lived at the American River Guard station for 3 summers.

Besides getting up early for my morning walks around the areas near the camp ground we took a day trip to the summit of Chinook pass to hike a section of the pacific Crest trail (PCT).

There is no water available at this camp ground so we filled the fresh water tank from a pitcher pump at the Mather Memorial Parkway rest stop 4 miles from the camp ground.

Hobo stew sizzling on the fire.

Sunrise on the American River.

American River Ski Lodge.  There is a very rare 20 hole out house in the back.  Built by the 932nd Camp Naches CCC Crew in the 1930's.  It is now on the forest Service cabin rental program as a group site.

American River Guard Station.  Built by the CCC crew in 1941.  It was my home for 3 summers 50 years ago and is now on the Forest service cabin rental program.

American Forks camp ground group picnic shelter, also built by the CCC crew.

Lake with flowers on the PCT.

Lama Pack String.  By the looks of the packs they are on an extend trip heading north.

Dewey Lakes.

Mount Rainier and flowers by lake.

The Bear Grass was in full bloom.
