+1 to taping up the positive lead to prevent shorting. If you already have a battery cut-off switch on that cable, you could turn that off instead, but it never hurts to take the belt-and-suspenders approach and tape up the positive terminal also. You know, just in case.

yes, you sure can. just tape up or otherwise protect the positive connector so it doesn't short to the frame accidentally.

I am going to take the batteries out of my 179 and install a harbor freight box with a lid then reinstall.  With the batteries out can I safely plug the trailer in to 110?
