Topic: Convert Dinette to Couch Posted: 05 Aug 2020 at 3:21pm |
I searched the forum and have been looking online, too. Has anyone converted the 180s dinette to a couch? How? I can imagine a way, or 2, but they might not look so nice. All of the couches I've found are 12+" deeper than the 24" dinette. That's too much to be practical. Eating on TV trays would be fine.

Have you tried a site - RecPro.com, I knew a guy who redid his motorhome off their products, just a thought.

Sure, this guy was a trip. He pulled into a MWR (military) campground, stripped his interior, had it in the dumpster, everyday UPS and FedEx would deliver stuff and 60 days later left with a completely refurnished RV. It was classic.
BTW - My uncle built a log cabin on Barnes Lake out side Kenora, Ontario in the 20s. I spent every summer there until I joined the military in the 60s. I have never been back, but it was the greatest time of my life there. The cabin is still there, I look at it on Google every once in a while. |

I'm thinking of buying an older trailer that still has good bones but gut the interior and re-do it to my liking. A bit of a family project and this site looks like it's just the ticket. The only thing is, I plan on doing it in my driveway, not at a campground but that's not a bad idea! Free disposal and camp while you work!
Kenora is a beautiful area, but it's about 20 hours of straight driving for me so it's been about 7-8 years since i've last been up there.

Yes, but what they have is 36" deep from the wall. Looks like I'll have to make something to replace the table. |

A lot of people have converted the dinette in the 180 to a couch. They typically will remove all the cushions, place a piece of plywood across the seats, then use patio cushions to form a couch.

Have you seen what I did for a dinette modification? Something similar may work. Replace the legs on the table with a post and add an attachment point to the wall. That way, you could get by with one post. Then add a cleat to each bench so that when the table drops down, it will be flush with the seat bases. Then you may need to make or have made a couple of cushions to fill the space. You could use a board like I did, but stowing it when not used would be more of a problem than I had with the 179. That way, you could have a wider bed there.
