One of the ceiling speakers in my 178 doesn't work -probably hasn't since new, but didn't notice it much.   I swapped speakers, and the one that works in ceiling hole A does not work in ceiling hole B, so I'm pretty sure the speaker is NOT the issue.

I am daunted by the styrafoam ceiling insulation - trying to find out which wire in the wood cabinet by the door might be the culprit seems like a task that could cause other problems.

Any ideas?

If you have a DVM and know how to use one, you probably need to check continuity between the stereo and the speaker. It might just be a loose connection at the stereo end, but I suppose it's possible the wire was broken during construction.

I have a 178, but no ceiling speakers, mine are in the walls, front and back of latrine. Mine is a 2015.

Yeah - I have a DVM, but the prospect of opening up that wooden rat's nest is about as daunting as starting a snow storm in the ceiling!  I'll probably have to try it, though.
