I have a plastic cover for two 20# tanks and experienced the same issue. Simply remount the regulator and go to your local propane distributor and have them make a longer pigtail for you. Measure first and add a few inches for comfort.

Most likely yes it can be, however in my case the pigtail had to be rerouted and replaced with a longer one to make it functional.

I have a single cover that I took off my 179 , I installed a second tank and now have a dual hard cover. It's yours if you want it.

I have both single and double. The double is on the RPod. The single is being used on my deck.

Like StephenH's recommendation, I installed a zip tie at each hinge joint to provide a tether in the event the wind tries to suck the lid off. Worked fine for many, many miles. The zip ties will get brittle after some time so make sure to replace them occasionally.
