If it's all getting to be too much trouble you could consider getting a wireless brake controller that plugs into your 7 way and has a 7 way output to the trailer. These are set up using a phone app via Bluetooth. I don't care for them myself because if you wanted to manually activate your trailer brakes in an sway emergency you'd have to leave a phone on and the app running all the time. But they are certainly easy to install and use no under dash space.

I found an installer he dropped the panel put the knob in a blank switch spot and it looks like a factory install. Took about an hour and a half. Towed the trailer today works great. I would post a picture but I do not know how.
Thanks to all who responded with suggestions.

Going to be real interested in how the '22 Frontier works for you. I've been a Nissan truck fan since my '86 4X4 King Cab. Definitely the best value out there.

I took it out for a local drive with the trailer to test the brake controller, the biggest difference seems to be the nine speed transmission and it seems to have a better ride than my 2015 Frontier. It will get a better test in July when we go to Colorado for a month. Since I always felt the 2015 was adequate in the rockies this should be better.
