Fender Remount.

   We experience a problem with out left fender on the R-Pod 190.  Apparently, I-65 is too rough for my R-Pod fender (Thank goodness for the infrastructure program and road repair to come).  Hit some pot holes and it removed the left fender by pulling out the screws right out of the trailer.  Luckily I saw it dangling and pulled over.  Removed the fender and stored it in the tow vehicle.

Now I want to remount the fender.  I want to seal the existing holes and raise the fender about 3/8 to a half inch so that this will not happen again.  The problem is refastening the fender.  If I move the fender straight up from it's current hole positions, will I like find support from metal studs, or is that unlikely.

Without proper support, I have no idea how I would mount the fender.

I believe that the fender should have been mounted higher at the factory, but that's water over the dam as the warranty is no longer valid.  I think the right fender is fine where it is, but the left is under the slide out and I reason the extra weight causes that side to ride slightly lower and when a bump of any type is hit the tire hits the top of the fender.  After a while, you can imagine what happens.  Also, the factory put light fasteners which were slightly longer on the left side so when the tire hits the fender the screws damage the tire.....

Any ideas on a good repair....?

	Several years ago i got too close to a building and as I turned nearly ripped off the fender on the passenger (door) side, made a slice in the fender and ripped 2 screws out. I simply re-drilled a couple holes and used Toggler nylon anchors. They have held up well.

	If you find that the fender was mounted to the aluminum frame on the left side, it might be possible to use the same mounting screw holes. You could fashion little metal brackets that have screws in them to hold the fender at a higher position, attach them with the old holes, then put some marine bedding compound caulk [for example, 3M 5200] along the upper edge of the repositioned fender to seal it off and keep it from rubbing on the trailer wall. A little of that caulk would also help seal the screw holes before you mount the little brackets to hold the fender. If I were a betting person, though, I'd put my money on the fenders not being attached to the aluminum frame, but just screwed onto the fiberglass covered foam wall. In that case, just squirt some of the marine caulk into the old screw holes, and put some on the mounting screw threads when you remount the fender.
