I am an avid active woodworker and a retired residential contractor.  I have used lots of glues and many different application methods. In my experience, Jato and Lostagain both have good responses about glues and clamping.Using small nails to hold until he glue dries is a great method as is clamping if possible.  There are also several construction glues in caulk sized tubes that offer "instant bonding" that can be used.

CA glues are valuable as well.

One method that I have used successfully is to combine traditional yellow wood glue and CA glue when clamping is not an option. I apply both glues-- the traditional yellow glue for the long term bonding and apply CA glue (with accelerator on the base part) as the temporary method of holding the piece in place until the yellow glue cures.  That is instant bonding without clamping(CA glue) and offers  long term strength (yellow glue).

Vann, I assume you apply the two different glues side by side so that they don't actually mix.  Is that correct?

Yes, the 2 different glues are applied in different areas-they are NOT mixed. Depending  on the size/location/weight etc. I use a larger amount of yellow glue for long term strength and just enough CA glue for initial adhesion. the accelerator spray makes the bond instant.

Also, there are at least 3 different thicknesses (viscosity) of CA glues available. Generally the thicker glues are better for non--clamping applications.  I use the thinner CA glues for gap filing and lighter applications.  Also, I have black and brown CA glues for filling wood cracks/blemishes.

You can buy all of the different CA glues in larger quantities (4-6 oz) than the typical"super glues" available in most stores. Starbond is a very good brand/source of many CA glues and they are also available from Woodcraft .
