Fought several Thunderstorms over stay at Rough River this past weekend, luckily the Rdome makes a very lovely refuge in a storm.  And although the temperature of the water in the lake was similar to a rather hot bath you can't go wrong when the view from camp is like this.

This is at Rough River in Kentucky.  There are about 5 campgrounds that dot the Northern most part of the dam and lake area.

This campground which I think is the best of all the surrounding ones is Axtel campground, lots of great sites that as you can see are right on the waterfront.  We can swim in the lake with the dogs and not be more than 50 feet from our campsite.  Really a great spot, and again the views all day and into the evening as the sun sets over the water are really something special!

Only took us about and hour and half from Louisville.  Not a bad distance for such a nice place.  We'll definently be returning often.

I love Rough River.  My grandparent's farm was in Leitchfield, so Rough River was a convenient place to do a family reunion.

We have camped at the dam, we rode our bicycles down and spent the weekend then rode back, the whole area is very nice. We would like to try this campground if we can find time.

We want to try and squeeze in another stay there this season but can't seem to find time between the rest of our trips.

Sometimes we get kind of tired when we camp multiple weekends in a row, too much of a good thing I guess!  Tongue
