We haven't boondocked yet but have been to N. GA. a number of times - both East and West. We don't turn the gas off. We also use a small ceramic heater instead of the furnace - quieter! Cooking is easy on the stove. I'm in your educated but naive bracket so we created a checklist -great idea from another PODDER - and use it to ensure our process remains consistent, applicable and practical.

Nope, it's that easy. I had some problems at first, would turn on furnace and hear the purge blower, then the click, this would cycle for about 3 times and shut down, no heat.  The problem was twofold, one our tank was not purged of air before filling, and 2, the furnace was the last in the circuit to get gas and would struggle to start.  I found if you turn the gas valve on the tank on for a while, make sure the stove and hot water heater would light the furnace would light.  The furnace is noisy but really warms the pod up nicely.  We got a little 1500 watt ceramic electric heater and it wil run you out on a 35 degree night. I love the Georgia Nights, maybe some time Donna and I will be able to Pod our way down there, have fun.

Okay, just bought a 2011 R-pod 172 and trying to get everything set up for the first time.  I'm new to RVs (long-time tent camper) and I also have some sort of disability when it comes to reading technical manuals. . .they just frustrate the you-know-what out of me.

So. . .having dutifully read all the warnings about the dangers of using the propane tank, I sucessfully lit the burners on the stove - just checking them out and to get the gas flowing through the lines -- I remembered that much from my orientation.

Next goal -- turn on the furnace.  After re-reading the manual and searching through the posts here, I turned the wall thermostat  control from Off to Heat.  Then I bumped the thermostat up from coldest towards warmer. . .the blower came on. . .then heard clicking sound. . .then after a minute or so had warm air blowing out.   Then I turned the wall control back to off, the blower continued running for a minute or so, then shut itself off.

Is it really that easy?  Have I neglected some vital step that's going to cause a middle of the night explosion?  Not too concerned this moment because I'm turning off the gas for the night -- it's supposedly going to get down to 31 degrees here, but the Pod is retaining heat nicely and it's really pretty toasty inside.

Thank you for being a welcoming forum that allows me to ask what probably seems (to some) a no-brainer kind of question.  Yes, I have a post-graduate college degree -- but when it comes to common sense mechanical stuff, I'm afraid I dropped out in about 1st grade!
