We empty every time and rinse. Once in a while, I will but a bag or 2 of ice in the tank and a cup of soap for on the way home. The ice will slide around and scrape off any thing that may stick to to bottom on the tank like paper etc. Before anyone ask how you get the ice out?. it melts. I know we are all smart here but someone all ways ask me that.

Thanks

We dump every trip, pour a small bottle of blue stuff and add water with 2 flushes. The Big bottle is inexpensive at Walmart and I refill smaller bottles. But, like most of the campers I know and have met, It is easier to use campgrounds facilities for # 2 and you don"t have all that work to deal with, after all camping Is about relaxing!

The 3/4 full recommendation is to ensure you get enough pressure/movement as the tank empties to move the solids out.  If you are not that full at the end of the trip but want to dump, first fill up the black tank by holding the toilet flush valve.

Also make sure you dump the black tank first, then dump the gray tank.  That will flush out the hose.  You should never leave the black tank open if you have full hookups, but you can leave the gray tank open until just before you dump the black tank.  Close it to get 2-3 showers worth of water in it, then you can dump the black tank and then the gray tank.

A little tip.  I went to a dump station that had the driveway tilited a little toward the drain in the ground.  The problem is the drain on the tank is in the middle of my 177 so it didn't do a good job of draining it.  Next time I will find a dump station on level ground.
