Kickstart - good choice staying away from the Dometic.  I hate ours.  Leaks condensation inside, and as most know it is loud as heck.  I'm very seriously considering buying a 5000 BTU window unit and converting it so I can mount it on the tongue - routing the air in and out with vents/hoses.

TNT, We've RV'D for over 40 total years and trailered for about 25 now. It really galls me how little RV fridges and AC's have improved in that time frame with all the breakthroughs in technology. Speaking specifically of Dometic, but other companies, too, like Norcold and Coleman. Why improve when you pretty much have a lock on the whole RV industry? Just keep pumpin' out that crud!

I really don't want to go to that expense. Most internal combustion engines lose power at elevation, and I don't wanna bake because I'm underpowered. Sorry Beavis, I don't want to be a butthead and jack your post.

That's a great point.  I'm unsure of the elevation here in NJ, but that's the only place I've used it.

We have camped frequently at high elevation and have never needed air conditining.    So a generator that is marginal for air should be OK for the rest of the electricals.
