Does anyone pull a model 177 with a Toyota Highlander Limited, V6 with towing hitch? How does this work for you.

I used to pull with a 2008 Highlander Hybrid with an aftermarket (UHaul) hitch and Prodigy P2 brake controller. We also had a Reese trunnion-style weight distributing hitch and sway control. The non-Hybrid Highlander has more towing capacity and I know others on this forum use similar (and some use smaller!) vehicles. I certainly don't blame the HiHy, but we had an accident while towing with ours (search the forums if you want the full story). Since the accident, we upgraded our TV to a large GMC and the difference is remarkable. Our new TV is probably a bit overkill for the R-Pod, but we feel really safe in it and are glad we made the switch.

Hi, we tow our 177 with a 2012 tacoma V6 with a regular toyota hitch. No problems yet. We towed it from Vancouver Island B.C. to Saskatoon and back. Some pretty tall mountians in between! Thats Canada I am talking about.

Welcome! We have a 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and a 177 that we purchased in December. Our dealer installed a Prodigy 2 electronic brake control and an equalizer hitch. We have only driven it twice in areas that are reasonably flat. So far so good. I will be interested in seeing how it goes when we try to go over mountain passes.

Our TV is a 2010 FJ Cruiser. I'm not sure but we may have the same engine. I think you might have a little more towing power. The FJ does fine even in the Smoky Mountains. You definitely know the trailer is there and you slow down going up a long hill. The RPMs are always higher, of course, than without the trailer, and the MPGs are about half. I love the FJ but when the rpod (a 176) is hooked up there are plenty of times I wish it had a V8.
