For Christmas this year we got the DishTV Tailgater system.  Since I still can't figure out how to post
pictures, here's the link to a Flickr page for anyone interested.  


Most of our camping is out of range for the stock antenna system, so for news, sports, weather, and a few
favorite programs, the Tailgater is a good answer.  I have to admit, however, that the tree canopy in
some of our favorite sites blocks reception.

I have the Tailgater also.  It is totally a 110VAC system, so you do have to have electric hookup.
My one problem is...that my chosen campsites tend to be wooded (I don't like the Pod having to sit in the sun all day).  The Tailgater dish needs open sight lines to the satellite.  Even a few leaves will cut reception, so I have had to run extra long cables, if there is room.  You are not allowed to run loose cables over a couple of other camp sites!  And then there is the problem of locking the plastic dome from being stolen.  Camping in the upper Mid-West generally means leafy campsites...I only have been able to use the Tailgater about 5% of the time.

We are toying with buying a tailgater, so I am happy to see your post.  Do you plug the tailgater in to the receptacle outside for cable tv?  Just curious how it all hooks up.  Thanks

On our 177, there is a double F-connector receptacle on the slide side near the rest of the utility hook-ups.

One connector is identified as "Cable", and the other as "Satellite".  The satellite connector feeds an outlet
inside the entertainment console.  That's where you pick up the feed for the satellite receiver.

If you already have a DishTV account at home, it is not too expensive to add the Tailgater.  Just be aware
that the small, self-aligning antenna needs a pretty clear signal path to the satellites.  (There are actually
three satellites it attempts to find.)
