Hi folks,

I was looking at purchasing a 2011 r-pod 171. Dry weight about 2200lbs.

The issue is that my patriot (as far as I can see) is rated at the most for 2000lbs towing. 
The dealer has offered a towing package. But is also saying that while I would have no issues towing he is offering me a power train warranty on the pat to cover any damages. This was my rather large red flag. 

I am pretty sure even with the towing package installed, towing over capacity would null any extended warranty on the jeep, correct??

The patriot is a 2.4 4cyc engine 4WD

Does anyone have experience towing a 171 with a patriot?? 
Do I attempt it or run away from the "deal"??

Hello, I would not do it. My 3.7 liter liberty is a little under powered when I get in the hills. Also there is more to the tow rating than power. The pat is just too light to tow a pod. The Liberty weighs a thousand pounds more and in a cross wind the trailer can throw it around. Third point you can easily add 1000 pounds to the dry weight by the time you get everything in.

Sorry to be such a downer but unless you can afford a new tow vehicle I would hold off on purchasing a pod

 I agree the patriot is under powered and under sized it would not be safe. It is sad that some dealers will say things that are not true just to make a sale. If you are unable to change your tow vehicle you could look at some of the small lite weight campers that are not self contained those just for sleeping. Sorry     David

Agree with what has been stated.  My TV is rated at 3500# and I have a 2012 rp-171, with just the two of us and our dog, and I would definitely not try to tow with anything rated lower than that.

Hold On SWO... There is a difference in Dry weight (no liquids) and unloaded weight. The 171 with your AC, Microwave, Furnace, HW Heater, Propane, and Battery weighs around 2700 pounds. Then add about 300 to that for the stuff you will carry and you will be very close to 3000# if not over. Don't even think about using that TV unless it is disposable. You will rip the gizzard out of it.
