We have been looking at the new cover for the larger pods. A thought, yup have them once in a while, occured. Would it be possible to use a clear sealer on the pod?

What I'm referring to it the type advertised on tv. They use it to seal the screen bottom of a boat and float around. They have a clear one now. Undertanding that certain vents need to be open, is this fesible or feable?

The idea was to protect the pod from just about anything. The cover isn't being taken off the table simply because the airconditioning unit and other units that can't be sealed.

Any ideas/concerns with doing this??

You mean sealing the joints and such, or are you talking about spraying the whole camper with the stuff?

That spray stuff is just a silicone that has been thinned down. Once on a surface, I think it's going to be impossible to clean, and sticky to boot. 99% of the surface of the pod is solid, so it can't leak. All the windows, vents, and gaskets need a little TLC, once a year or so, takes a couple minutes to a couple hours. The caulk around the windows and doors and roof vents is a perishable item. If you just keep up with it, no water should get in.

A cover is really just to keep the winter off for most. End of the season we give the pod a good scrub, check all the gaskets and caulk, wax. usually we put on the cover, this year we didn't. Come mid March or so, we will repeat the wash/inspect/wax/repair procedure.

all good.

Sounds good. We were trying to avoid caulk and leak issuea more than anything else. I'm waiting for this ridiculous MI winter to end so we can wash and wax it!!

Thanks

nah, sadly i do not think it is possible to avoid caulk.  it's inspection and maintenance is part of your checklist to maintain your warranty even.

I am no expert, but I think sometime back on the r-pod nation forum someone applied something to the caulking to extend the life of the caulk. He posted some before and after pictures. I to would not recommend having the trailer sprayed with a sealant. We had the cover but did not use it, in South Florida there is a lot of humidity and rain and it did not allow enough air circulation.  David
