    Posted: 03 Apr 2014 at 9:32pm
So I was dropping off my wife's Mazda at the mechanic this morning when I saw a Tesla sitting in the lot. Now it's not unusual to see a Ferrari or some other exotic at this place, but I wondered what kind of work they were doing on a Tesla. So I asked. "We're putting a trailer hitch on it," was the reply. Turns out the Tesla is rated for 1500 lbs. (too light for this crowd), but the real reason was so they could carry their bikes on the back.

Hmmm - a Tesla towing an r-pod....
What would the mileage be?

Hey no fair picking on electric vehicles :)

Our "other" car is a 2013 Nissan Leaf EV and while it's no Tesla it is an amazing car.

I would not, however, dream of towing anything with it!

I'd love a Tesla, but I'll stick with our Prius.  Wouldn't tow with either.

The first R-Pod I ever saw was being towed by a Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

I used to tow with my Miata. I have a 90lb aluminum kayak trailer, by Castle Craft. It can carry up to 300 lbs. Worked well behind our Mazda5 as well, even though neither is rated for towing. How much damage can you do with 175 lbs? Eventually I sold the Miata and bought the pickup. Both are two seaters, white, and have 5 speeds. Hard to tell the difference between them.

We used to tow with a Highlander Hybrid (maybe it was us you saw), but then switched to a Yukon after our accident. It was technically under the tow limits, but the CVT seemed to whine going up hills and the gas mileage was terrible (we got about 9MPG and with the smaller tank in the HiHy, it meant we were stopping every 120 miles or so to fill up).
