Good point. 5 years and about 20,000 miles and we didn't have any issues with our 171. |

I lke the looks of the diamond plate but my 5 year old 177 without rock protection and thousands of miles on has no rock damage on the front or any where else for that matter.

Diamond plating is readily available from a variety of sources. Off-roaders use it extensively. The diamond plating on my R-pod seems to be very thin--maybe even plastic? Not sure, but here's a source for diamond plate for RVs: http://diamondlifegear.com/trailer-stone-guard.htm#buynojmp |

Can you buy the diamond plate for older R-Pods? My 2010 171 doesn't have it.

No diamond plate on the older non-HREs.

Kinda' sounds like the 'Apple' of the pod world to me. More hype than substance.

All R-pods have diamond plate on the front. My non-HRE certainly does. But only the HREs have diamond plating inside the wheel wells. The larger diameter wheels and offroad tires look cool, and do add a bit more clearance compared to a non-HRE with axle risers, but that's really the only real practical value added by the HRE.
Mostly, it's a regional thing. If you live in the Rockies or west, dealers get the HRE. If you buy one east of the Rockies, you get the Indiana non-HRE. Even though I live on the west side of the Continental Divide, I drove 600 miles east to purchase my non-HRE since it was thousands cheaper than similar HREs that local dealers had. |
