Supposed to be another 36 degree night! I'm a newbie and pretty worried about my new R pod freezing up. So tell me, is it safe to put my little heater in the camper tonight? Without me in it? Who's to say it won't dip below freezing?? What do you people do?

You are gonna have to get a lot colder that 36 or 32 or 25 degrees F to worry about for a night. Takes a while and coooold temps for real freeze to damage anything. If you are really concerned, I suggest a small heater, a bottle of wine, a significant other or cat or dog and enjoy the cool night!

Yup, no worries at that temp. When it goes more than a few degrees below freezing for more than a few hours overnight then it is about time. As long as most of the hours of the day are at or above you are fine.

36 isn't a problem, but to be clear, a heater in the pod will do a little, but not enough to keep lines from freezing when it gets to 20 or 25F. Water lines are outside and/or in areas that don't get full heat.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I'm going up north this weekend, for four days. Guess I'd better winterize when I get back. Since I like to camp through the first part of November, I'll just go waterless. Sure wish the sink had a direct line outside, rather than to the tank!

Not sure what you're looking for here. The POD draws water directly from the external city water connection if it's connected. Doesn't need water in the tank. The external hose must be disconnected during freezing WX. As I recall all water pipes are all buried in the floor, not exposed to the outside, so they should be OK in moderately freezing temps. |

Oh, sorry for confusion. My Aliner has a sink that drains water right outside into a pail. That way, I can use water from a Coleman cooler and not worry about what falls into the sinK. I can still brush teeth and throw coffee down that sink and not worry about it. Now, with the Rpod, I'll need to be careful and use a dishpan in the sink once it's been winterized.
That's all...just venting a little.😀 |
