My wife and I are considering a new camper the 2016 Rockwood mini-lite 2306. By what little information I could find from other owners they seem to be happy with theirs. And from surveys of customer satisfaction with the brand Rockwood it seems to be above average. I am retiring in a couple of months and a larger camper than our current camper the Vibe,it would be very nice to have the extra room and a couch for rainy days. Does anyone know of anyone or have any experience with the brand Rockwood or a mini-lite? It's a big decision and I like the easy towing of our Vibe but it is a little small for extended trips for over a month. I am undecided to live with the limited space and comfort of the Vibe or buy the mini-lite. My wife has back problems at times and seating in the micro-lite is comfortable for her. With the Vibe she doesn't complain much and we do have folding chairs that are comfortable for her. But I know it would be more comfortable for her with the micro-lite. Any help would be appreciated.

I've never owned a Rockwood so, I can't say much other than the name has been around for decades. I would expect the quality to be on par with other FR products.

If you have the TV to pull it and that is what you want, well...we only live once. Sometimes a large rig limits the number of campsite choices. A big rig might not fit in places where a Pod could. That said, 24' isn't huge and should fit most.

Another option might be to change your seating in the Vibe. I made "custom" dinette seats for mine. While I don't have back problems, the "straight up" angle of the OEM seating was not comfortable. I made something with a little more "recline".

Good luck!

To get personal experience from others who own that model, you may want to check out the Forest River Forums and then Rockwood. Lots of owners

I can stop thinking about a 2306 micro-lite because of the heavy hitch weight. Our truck may be a truck but the payload capacity 1,231 lbs. is more like a suv or passenger car. With the dry hitch weight of 515 lbs. and two 30 lb. propane tanks, battery, trailer cargo weight, weight of WDH, my wife and myself's weight combined, my added step bars, and our dog and cargo items in truck we are at or above our payload capacity. I called equalizer and they said using WDH to offset payload of truck to trailer axles is not a good idea. In that a WDH main purpose is for better safe handling of tow vehicle.

Our good friends bought a 23 foot MiniLite 2 years ago.   They have the front Murphy bed and no slide model. They are very happy with it. The only "complaint" I've heard from them is that there is not much exterior storage. They tow with a Titan.

David, what is your towing capacity with your options?

My towing capacity is 7,550 Lbs. on the inside of my door there is a sticker that says payload including weight of occupants should not exceed 1,231 lbs. By what I understand talking with the manufacturer of the equalizer hitch is that for payload I need to include the WDH weight and the trailer loaded hitch weight and occupants and cargo in the truck. The WDH hitch weight is 103 lbs. and the dry hitch weight of the 2306 micro-lite is 515 lbs. I think I will exceed the payload capacity. I do not know if the WDH will transfer that much weight back to the trailer axles. I am very close to the limit with everything before loading the camper. The salesman is telling me I could balance the weight by loading what I can behind the axle. I am getting close to my limits not sure if I want to do that or would be safe.

1231# seems very low for a full sized 1/2 ton PU. My little Tacoma is rated at over 1300#.

Yes, I agree in 2012 they switched from leaf springs to coil springs for a smoother ride. In 2013 I guess they put larger springs because the payload was increased. It is a very gentle riding truck but not very good for hauling heavy loads.
