Topic: yellow 'foot' problems/hitch issues Posted: 03 May 2016 at 5:27pm |
Has anyone had problems getting the yellow'foot' on the trailer post to drop properly. It has allowed the trailer to roll forward and push the post off the yellow foot, dropping the post onto the ground. If their is an incline up under the post, no room to allow it to swing down. Very frustrated with it. Also, have a problem getting the hitch to climp down on the ball (yes, i have a 2" ball). Have to use a hammer or stand on the lever to get it to drop down and around the ball. Any ideas as to cause??

I had a problem with the foot dropping properly the very first time I lowered it... I actually snapped the 1/4" bolt right off when I tried to lower the foot. I believe the problem was actually with a washer "catching". I replaced the bolt with one that is 1/2" longer and left it a thread or so loose. I've had no issues since. Good luck.

The latch that grabs the bottom of the ball can be adjusted from underneath, and you need to make sure it's "out of the way" when lowering the tongue. It sometimes helps to get back in the tow vehicle and put it in neutral and let the ball/hitch center itself..
As far as the flip foot.. We don't have one. |

It's a common problem reported on this forum before. The bolt may bent and ready to shear off or the washer is missing on either side of the "foot". The remedy is to buy a new 3/8 x 3 1/2" bolt. Ask for Grade 8 bolt, the one installed is a Grade 5 and bends and shears too easily. Also, buy a new nut with the locking nylon insert to prevent the nut from loosening once installed. Be sure that each side has a flat washer against the "foot". Thighten the nut just enough to remove most of the "wiggle" but not so tight the "foot" doesn't easily move on it's own weight. This will take care of your problem.

thanks, you may have answer one of my Q's, if the 'catch' can be adjusted. the latch opens/closes with ease when no ball is in socket. I looked up under the opening and it has what appears to be an adjustable bolt/nut. Was not sure if it was to adjust the 'tighness' of catch.

You may just need to reach under and pull the catch all the way open before inserting the ball. Had to do that with our popup and pod. If you do adjust, make sure you can lift the rear of your TV to be sure it wont come off on the road (this test should be done every time you hitch up).

Reading this makes me kind of glad we did not get the yellow flip foot with our R-Pod. I got a manual flip foot instead that requires me to pull a pin to switch it from horizontal to vertical. However, once it is locked in, it is stable.
I have to make sure my vehicle and trailer are lined up right also. Sometimes, I lower the trailer onto the ball just enough to get it in place, then move the car forward slightly, which allows it to more freely drop down. Then the lock will drop down easier also. |

Don't know about yellow foot, but have found Desenex® or paint thinner works well for green foot. Old school.
