Thanks for the tip!
I put up my awning this weekend for the first time - or tried to - and the dang thing keeps popping out. You can see from the attached picture - if I did this right (newbie here) - the insert is just too small for the railing. I sent a note to the dealer to inquire if I was given the wrong size - hoping for an exchange.
It SEEMS like I got the wrong size - but from what I'm reading just about all of ya'll are having this challenge with the R-Dome so I suppose the manuafacturer of the dome is consistently using a bead that is too small for the track. I see from the directions the R-Dome was designed for pop up campers - perhaps the rail on those is smaller than 14mm?
I wasn't planning to have an R-Dome - but I learned upon delivery that 2017 R-Pods now come with the R-Dome standard. I was surprised to learn that when I picked up my new R-Pod 170 a month ago. I have a Pahaque awning on order.
I'm afraid to modify the track as described until I see how my new Pahaque awning works. They very clearly describe the 9mm and 14mm options on R-Pods - so I expect it will fit my 14mm rail better than the r-dome does. If I can still pinch the channel down some without hampering the use of the Pahaque awning then I'll do that.
I did hit a screw head now and then sliding in - but all the screws seem to be screwed in about as far as the heads will allow. Forest River should have used flathead screws and countersunk the holes of course, as others have mentioned. Perhaps I'll replace them myself sometime later - especially since it appears Forest River left out a bunch of them in a row about midway!
I'll report again after my new awning arrives and I get a chance to try it out - hopefully in the next few weeks.
Happy Camping!
