my 2016 179 tire keeps loosing air, about 5 lbs every week. but stops at 35 lbs pressure. i've had it off and had firestone look at it and they say there is no leak.. as far as warrenty goes seems like more of a hassel to have them check it. i'll be looking for some suggestions please as my pod trips for the year are not over yet. headed to neil young concert in telluride then moab later this month.

Pretty much has to be one of three things - leak in the tire - leak in the valve stem - leak at wheel to tire seal.  Soapy water may help you find, baffles me it stops at 35 psi.  I have in past had issues with tire that didn't seal right to wheel and caused symptoms similar to yours (after I had eliminated valve stem and punctures).  Fill to max and try soapy water.  Not all tires are perfect.

It CAN, and there have been, a leak in the wheel casting itself. BUT, unless it's a lot of hassle to use the warranty.. use it.

When is Neil Young in Telluride??  I'm going to be there later this month too, but don't care for a lot of traffic or crowds. I have a bit of adjustability to my schedule....

5 lbs a week is slow.  Soapy water may or may not show that.  I'd try it though.  First over-inflate the tire a bit to make the air stream more prominent.  You can use soapy water on the valve stem too, of course, or you can just replace it.  That would be the first thing I'd do unless I knew there was a leak in the tire.    I agree too, that stopping at 35 is a real puzzler.  If it's only 5 lbs a week, you will be fine traveling with it leaking, topping it off now and then.

When Firestone took a look, did they take the tire off the wheel or just dip it in water?  I'm thinking about an imperfect seal here - almost good, but not quite.

Or keep in mind that there is a small spring in the tire valve.  It might be weak without failing.  When the tire pressure drops to 35 psi, the weak spring may be strong enough to cope with that much pressure.  Replacing the valve stem could solve the problem.

I guess the other approach would be to put a good/new cap on the valve.

Thanks for the Neil Young dates.  I'll be there and long gone by then...

  Good luck with the tire.
