Topic: Suburban Water Heather Model Posted: 25 Feb 2017 at 3:46pm |
wondered if any of you know exactly the model Suburban water heater I may have in my'16 178? From past experience with airstream restorations and Casitas, I do know that it is an AC/propane water heater. The switch on the inside near the entry makes me think it is an electric ignitor. Since I bought this used from an RV rental business they didn't have the manual and I have been inventing from here
Any ideas of the model number?

Can't be sure since I don't have a '16 but the "standard", and the one FR has used for eons, is the Suburban SW6DE. It is gas and 120V electric. On the wall you should find a rocker switch with a red light next to it. That is the gas side of the WH. The electric element is wired to a circuit breaker in the power panel and is also controlled by a small black rocker switch inside the external (outside) access panel. Normal operation is to leave the outside switch on so the electric side comes on whenever shore power is available. The gas side can be used or not used when shore power is available but you can reduce recovery time by using both.

Thanks Charlie. I think you are exactly correct. I compared the online information what the unit appeared like and I am sure it is the same. I have downloaded the owner's pdf to put in a manual that I will keep in the trailer. I have done that with 2 airstreams, 2 argosys a scamp and a casita, all of which I restored and never regretted having a binder of information. This is the first "near new" trailer I ever owned and its great to not be thinking of the next project to be done.

| Apltrez, If you're not thinking of the next project you're dead. That's part of the fun
