I am working hard on modifying our new(to us, actually it is lightly used) 179 R Pod.  Before I load it up, I wanted a starting point regarding the weights.  I went to our county landfill today and weighed the 179 in various configurations.  I weighed our tow vehicle(2012 ford Expedition EL ) with my wife and I inside and 1/2 tank of gas(approx 16 gallons= approx 128#).  I weighed the R Pod with empty holding tanks and a full tank of propane. Nothing was in the pod except stock items including AC and Microwave.
The combined weight of the truck and rpod and wdh hitch unit was 9348#. The truck as noted above weighed 6138#, the wdh unit weighed 82# and the rpod weighed 3128#.  the tongue weight(without considering the hitch unit weight) was 388# which is 12.4% of the trailer weight.

I think I have figured these correctly.  I did not know how to deal with the 82 pound hitch unit, so left it as a separate  item.  Should the 82 pounds be added to the tongue weight or truck weight or what????

Please correct me if this is not right.
Thaks

Were you charged at the county landfill? I had not thought of that as an option to get a weight on our RP179.

No, it was free. I called them first to find out how/where/when, etc.  I went late in the afternoon when they were least busy.  I was able to cross the scales as many times as I wanted.  there was also plenty of flat space to unhitch the trailer and leave it so we could weigh the truck. It is the orange county landfill in Chapel Hill. I know you are not here, but if passing through I'm sure you could stop by without a problem. the weight guy was chatty and had nothing else to do.

My weights might be a good starting point for you. I know you have done a lot of mods, so it might be interesting to see how much weight you have added.  That was the main reason I wanted the empty weights.  I plan to do a lot of mods on this unit similar to the ones we did on our prior 173.  We had it for almost 6 years and really loved it.  It was modded to our purpose very well.

thanks for all of your mod ideas-I will be using some of them soon

My pleasure. I could try the South Wake landfill first. I will see if the scales are still active at the North Wake Landfill (closed) which is now a Convenience Center and Household Hazardous Waste facility. That would be a lot closer.
