I've got a 40 pound outboard motor that I am thinking of mounting on the Stromberg Carlson tongue tray. I'd use a strongly reinforced 2X6 for mounting the motor onto the tray, angled slightly with a wood block between the motor shaft and the tray itself to tilt the motor enuf to avoid the trailer jack. It looks like I could store a couple of small gas cans up there, too.

I'd hate to see my motor bouncing down the road, it would just ruin my day.

Any comments??

The tray is certainly strong enough. I would definitely drill some holes and use carriage bolts to fasten your 2x6 mount to it if you decide to do this.

I definitely have some concerns about this.  I don't know if a 40 pound outboard motor will have enough power to move the pod.

Not without water. Back the pod into a lake until the prop is submerged, and it might just work.

Thanks for your feedback. I'd p.m. you but there may be people out there who may benefit from this discussion.

I like the practicality of the tray. The company's brochure shows a generator and a cooler on it, so I agree, strength is not the issue.

I figure if a generator will rest there with all the bouncing a trailer gets, my much lighter motor should be ok, I'd just feel better if there were someone out there who said, "easy peasy"because I have had all the courses of The School of Hard Knocks that I can take.

If I go there, carriage bolts and reinforcement of the mount with steel strips will be the order of the day!

Now, I've got to persuade 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' that this is a Good Idea!

Personally I have used the SC rack for numerous carry issues. From generator with fuel can to stepladder, cooler and occasional tool bowes, very handy.

I'd like to see how it turns out. Please post a picture or two when you get it done.
