This has been asked I know but has anyone installed the solera slide topper themselves and if so how hard is it and is it worth the money and effort? I live and park it where there are a lot of trees.SmileSmile

etrailer.com has an excellent video of installing a slide topper on a 180. They recommend two people. I had my SO help with mine when installed and it was good show was there. The wind up function on it is stout.

Yes, I installed my Solara slide topper by myself. Doable if you are handy but would be much easier with a helper.

Yes, the video is helpful. The only question then is what length would be needed for a 179.

According to the video, the topper should be 6" more than the outside flange of the slider. "About 3" on each side".

Depends on how long your slide is. Camping world website explains how to measure them.

If you have a 179, two people is a must. I installed all the brackets for the Carefree of Colorado Slide Cover on our 179, but I needed from my wife when it came to sliding the fabric into the keder rail. Spreading the end of the rail where you're inserting fabric makes the job a lot easier. Carefree has a sizing guide on their website that requires taking a couple of measurements.

From experience I would recommend you follow the very clear instructions on ETrailer for your specific trailer.

As others have posted, you just need to know width of slide and add 6". I don't know what a 179 slide measures, I know it is big. My cover is 6 1/2' and the slide is 6', that's a 178 and a 180 I know of.

Installed mine by myself with the help of a 6' stepladder to hold one end up.  It'd doable.

I don't have mine here to confirm, but if I recall correctly, it was about 110" from outside edge of the flange to outside edge of the flange which, when 6" is added would mean that I would need a 9.5' or 10' cover depending on which way I round. I think I will measure the keder track to confirm the maximum length I can use when I get it back home from the dealer. I'm still waiting on an answer about the axle.

I just went out and checked. The outside flange of our 2016/2017 RP-179 is right at 109". The keder rail is almost exactly the same dimension. Not to get too nit-picky, but plus 6" puts that right at 115" or 9 feet, 7 inches. Give or take .04".

I got the 98-105" length with our Carefree Slide Cover (original version) and it fits perfectly.

Either the 10' or 9 1/2' would work. The slide out mounts have sufficient length to adapt. That would be for the etrailer provided one.
