I didn't think the r-dome was being supplied any longer in favor of a roll-out awning?

Their brochure lists the R-dome and the Thule awning as options. One or the other. The pic on the site shows the r-dome is blue and gray. Blue at the bottom.

For those of you who prefer the awning over the r-dome.... don't bother coming up into central, eastern, or northern Ontario from May 15 to Sept 15th. You will be spending ALL of you time inside your pod. The black flies and mosquito's are to hard to handle without the dome to sit in.   Just say'en..

One or the other. Most dealers are ordering with the awning, as they know how to "sell" an awning.

The structure needs to be reinforced where the awning attaches. So you should order it up front, or else it can not be installed.

+1 to GlueGuy, if you want a Thule awning you need to order or buy that way. If you buy with a keder rail, you have to make or buy an awning that attaches to the keder. I have a visor awning for my 178, I bought at PahaQue.com.

In response to OP, ours (172, Mfg 10/18/2018) came with R-dome and I just rolled it out.  It is indeed predominantly gray, but with dark/Navy blue trim along bottom and thin strip along "eave" vent.  I expect it will match anniversary exterior well.

Thanks for making me look (never thought of it).

I;ve said it before, I love the dome. I really fail to see the attraction of the tiny awning even if I didnt have the dome. My dome is as wide as my pod. Usually awnings are a few feet shorter on each side of the pod. There is so little area under the awning in my opinion. I love the dome so much, i bought a clam last year so i could have even more screened area. The clam pavilion also comes with built in rain flies that roll up just like the dome. So rain or shine it gives me an additional 12 1/2 x 12 1/2  foot wide "indoor" structure.

Love your response! I haven't got an r-pod actually..I'm fence sitting of either buying a new r-pod 191 or a used class c. I have learned a lot of info on r-pods on this site which has helped with my pro and con list for both purchases. Thanks again for the response on the dome, something else to think about.

There is no doubt.. an awning is a one trick pony, the dome does the awning thing just fine.. but then it does so much more..

The dome is home.

We have both-the rdome and an awning(8'x10')  that we made. We use both depending on the circumstances.  We use the rdome if we are staying more than a couple of nights, if it will be raining or if we need the extra space. we use the awning if we set up for just one night and need some rain or sun protection.  sometimes the campsite isn't big enough for the dome, so we will use the awning instead.

I used 6" round pvc pipe with screw ends to carry the poles.  the pipe is mounted under the pod frame and across the width.

You must taste good. We’ve been all over ( Salt st Marie over to Quebec then down around Lake Huron and northern Lake Erie) Ontario in June and had no problem with flies or mosquitos.

We made the awning from a heavy duty tarp.  we ordered the keder tape and sewed it to the edge of the tarp.  A standard home sewing machine will do this. check the size of your rail-there are 2 sizes depending on the year/model.  be sure to order the correct size keder tape. We used standard telescoping tent poles with guy wires.

Adding to Vann's comments just in case it's needed/helpful - be sure to use a larger needle (#14 or #16), longer stitch and stitch slower. Stories abound but the one I most remember is a friend who threw off the timing of his brand new (home, not industrial) sewing machine by sewing too fast on canvas. The friend is a really good mechanic so I figure if he could make that mistake, anyone can.
