Is there a device that can boost the signal reception for the TV in a camper? The crank up antenna on our Vibe has much better reception than the antenna on our Vista. I was thinking if there could be something I could add to what is in the Vista now to boost or amplify the signal. We get about a third of the stations in the Vista that we do in the Vibe.

I assume the Vibe has the crank up directional antenna and the Vista has the flying saucer omni directional antenna. If so the problem is the antenna. Omni directional antennas are equally bad in all directions. They're fine if you're right under the TV station but who camps there? The on board booster tries to make up for the lack of gain on the omni but not very successfully. The only real solution is a directional antenna with some gain, preferably elevated. If you really need TV you could try a short directional antenna on a 10 foot pole attached to the side or bumper of the Vista. However, you will have to aim it. That's the price you pay for directivity.

This type of antenna called Omni directional is generally used in the radio communication. This radiates signal in all direction equally.

Another thing to consider: When you boost the signal, you're also boosting the noise. If the signal is weak enough to be in or barely above the noise floor, no amount of amplification will help.

I don't think I have ever been in a camper that didn't have a built in booster, but you do need to turn it on..
