It's a friction hinge, always took some effort to close/open the door. So when it didn't open as usual, I just pressed harder... and it snapped. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

The frame side of the hinge is riveted to the frame. It didn't snap, but it's not going to align either. Just looking for any experience people had with this thing.

Did anyone replaced the friction hinge with a normal one?

I am sorry to hear of your problem. I did an internet search - You are not alone in having problems with your door hinge. I am afraid that a friction hinge is an example of regressing progress.

A Lippert promo on the internet  brags that their hinge will stay in position in a 15 mph wind, but the average US wind speed is about 7 mph! A Luddite, I think I'll stay with the old reliable hinge with a catch that keeps it out of the way.

7 mph is an unusually calm day here in Texas. In the spring, the typical wind speeds are 20-25 mph.

MIK,

It appears that the hinge is OK, but the hinge pin broke. I would try to push out the hinge pin (both parts) with a thin punch or maybe an appropriately sized nail (with the point filed flat). Then find a replacement pin at your local hardware store. Looks like you will have to do some minor straightening of the hinge itself.

I'll try that. Although, I need at least one new door side hinge. Powder coating peeled off the middle one.

Thanks. Filed for future reference if needed. I have to lubricate mine a couple of times per year when they start to get too stiff and start creaking too loudly.

Wow, that's one of the least expensive replacement structural parts I think I've ever seen.

Stephen, what do you use to lubricate the hinge? A silicone based lubricant?

I have been using one that contains teflon, DuPont Multi-Use Lubricant with Teflon. It comes in a blue can, Part number D000110101 to lubricate a lot of things around the house as well as the hinges in the R-Pod door.

I lubricate mine several times a year.  There are several good lubricants out there.  WD40, while working to rid a squeak temporarily,  is not a lubricant as most people think.  It is actually a cleaner, and will dissolve any lubricants that you have usedin the past.

I use a lubricant similar to what StephenH uses called Tri-Flow. It is also a light oil infused with teflon.

Not a fan of the "resistance hinge"...I'll take a door catch over it any day.
