Well, we are turning the page to a new chapter in our lives.  The wife and I are retiring July 31!!!!!  We both have worked for the City of Charlotte for more than a couple of decades and it is time.  We have a couple of situations both good and bad that are allowing us to pull the trigger.  But we are very blessed and thankful for where we are!
All kinds of events this year:  the son graduated NCSU and got his first full-time job as a job recruiter this past December, the daughter is getting married this coming Saturday, graduated Auburn Vet School and has a job at a large animal clinic just north of Durham, NC.  The new way of life is hard to mentally grasp at this point but the one thing I do understand is the unlimited potential to go Podding whenever we get the urge and not just on the few unbusy weekends it seems we've always had.  Mid-week, un-crowded campgrounds....here we come.   Pod rallies.....here we come.  Long, extended trips across multiple states and regions.....here we come.Thumbs UpBig smile

Congratulations! If you think you will kick back and have nothing to do, think again. Retired life can be even more busy than working life! You just get a bit more choice in the things that keep you busy. Thumbs Up

Greetings:

I have been retired for 22 years, retiring at 57.  You will find ways to fill up Your days.  The main thing is to develop hobbies and interests,  learn something new every day!  Be happy with the simple things in life, read, walk, stay upright.  Good luck and happy travels, don't be a couch potato.

Appreciate all the advice!  I do have other hobbies, interests and projects besides Podding:  church, Boy Scout leader (specifically Order of the Arrow stuff), off-roading the old K5 (always been in the blood since younger but just now able to pursue it more in the last 5 years), and many house/vehicle/yard projects to keep me busy for a long, long while.  I don't plan to get bored but if I do, you will never hear me complain about it.  And I probably will be busier than I can imagine as y'all suggested but again, you will never hear me complain.  Haven't the flexibility every day to do what I want, when I want will be quite nice.

I'm planning to retire within the next 3 years, shortly after I reach 60. My only real concern is health insurance to hold me through to 65 when Medicare kicks in. I'm really looking forward to every day being Saturday and not having to plan around my work week.

I've been semi-retired for a little over 5 years. I still do consulting on a one-day-a-week basis with the company we sold our business to. However, I think I will be hanging up my spurs in the next year or two.

I have bin retired for a few years now, but almost every day I ask myself, how did I ever have time to go to work.

THIS

I SWEAR I took more vacations when working 60 to 90 hrs a week. Retired in 2007 at age 49 and I work for me now....not "The Man".

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! I, too, am retired, though my husband has not yet taken the plunge. He is contemplating it harder every day. Though I do agree that I love being retired now, there is a bit of an adjustment period involved. You don’t realize how much you affiliate who you are with what you do for a living until you stop doing it. Give yourself that time to adjust and figure out your new reality. It will get better as you set a new daily routine. I’ve met a few people who really struggled with retirement and found another job to keep from going stir crazy. I personally contemplated doing that myself...now I’m glad I refrained from following that urge. Remember this: It’s ok to say no to people who think you should use all your new “free” time to help them out. You earned that time to choose what you want to do with it! I don’t mean to be the voice of gloom and doom, just want you to give yourself that transition time. Enjoy your retirement!
