Within one year I have lost two of the propane tank cover lids. This time I used two zip ties near the hinges so if I forget to tighten the locks it will not fly off the zip ties will hold it in place. I had to drill two small holes in the lid to match the holes already in the cover to secure zip ties.

Which way does the lid swing open? On ours, the lid opens forward. I don't remember if the cover will go on either way, but if it will and your lid opens toward the rear, try flipping the cover around. That'll keep air from getting up under the lip of the lid while traveling and potentially lifting the lid open and off. Ours is always secure at the end of a drive.

The hinges are in the front and locks in the rear. I think what I have forgot to do was secure the locks and the lid flies off from air turbulence behind our tow vehicle. The only other thing which I don't think has happened is that someone has stolen the lids both times.

Yeah, I don't think those lids have a high street value.

Do you have the lock with the two prongs and the knob for tightening/loosening? I'm already in the habit of tightening it down when I'm done opening or closing the valve, so I don't have to think about it.
