Subject: A couple of questions

I have a new 192 and a few questions.  I have a 30A outlet so I keep the Rpod plugged in while it is  in my backyard.
1 - Does having the Rpod plugged in charge the battery?
2 - I noticed there is a port on the front of the frame tied in with the propane line.  It has a blue rubber cap on it and a valve.  Is it for connecting to an external propane tank?

Thanks,
Dan

I don't own a new Pod. Having the Pod on 30A connecter with converter CB on charges the battery. I think you do have an external port for propane. Nice addition for newer Pods.

Hello Dan,

I believe the port is not for connecting to an external propane tank, but is instead a port for connecting a grill. It is low pressure so you would need one meant for low-pressure propane. These don't have (or need) a regulator since the pressure has already been reduced by the RPod's regulator. Our 2016 RP179 does not have that. It would be handy and I have thought about trying to add one. I just have not figured out how yet.

As for the battery, yes. The converter in the RPod charges your battery if low and maintain it at a float charge if it is fully charged. I added a 30A outlet to our house to be able to keep the RPod plugged in and also to be able to run the AC while we are home. Most of the time, I keep it at 80F because I don't want the interior to get too hot and I don't want the NC summertime humidity. In the winter, I can keep a small ceramic block heater going to keep the interior above freezing. That does not take the place of winterizing, but it keeps my LiFePO4 battery above freezing since it is inside.

Yes. That propane quick connect is for attaching a grill or other propane accessory as noted by StephenH.

Dan, I hate to be a downer here but....  If your dealer didn't explain what ALL things were and what they did... Don't expect to much help if you happen to need  warranty work.  I know its to late now, but ask around of other people who have bought tt from this dealer and how they are with warrenty work or anything...  Good luck and enjoy your new life style.

Right now the RVs are 'flying off the shelves' so to speak...the dealers dont have time to actually explain stuff, they are too busy taking peoples money.

On another forum I visit, someone just bought a brand new 2021 $150,000 class B, got the 'bum's rush' from the dealer and they don't know ANYTHING about it.

Holy smokes.

BTW that LP port on the frame is almost worthless. Forget it is there. Seriously.

If you want to cook outdoors, just buy a tabletop or freestanding grill, screw in a bottle, (or attach a 20# tank) and go for it. If you want a small propane firepit or lantern, again, just provide it with it's own LP supply.

If you use that frame mounted port you have to use a portable LP appliance that does NOT have its own regulator. Try finding those at a big box store.

And if you do, you will be draining the supply on your trailer. Just....fo-get about it.

My opinion and of course, there will be other opinions to follow.

We leave our Rpod connected to a 20 amp outlet through an adapter. As long as we don't run the AC that works just fine.

+2, I use the 20A and adapter all winter to use converter to charge battery. No need for AC.

My rpod a/c runs just fine on a 20A circuit, just turn off the other stuff in there while you're running it. You can leave the charger on as long as the batteries are already charged up so it's not pulling much current.

SH,

I used the CAMCO 59123, comes with hoses, to add ability to attach grill, or fireplace, also add additional tank temporarily.

Offgrid,

+1, Mine does too. I have a 30A RV connector so I use it. When I put the Pod in building I don't have access to my RV connector, so I run it off the wall, a 20A circuit.

Thanks. I looked at it and it looks like it likely would not work for my situation. I already did a dual-tank setup on the tongue with auto-switchover. This looks like it is more for a large tank that fills in place on a motor home. I'm looking more for a low-pressure fitting but would need to find a manifold with an empty spot to attach a hose to give me the equivalent of what the newer RPods have.

Hey S/H, understand. I didn't want to do a dual tank conversion. I have plenty of space to carry a spare tank. My tongue weight is at 382, didn't want to go higher. Also I didn't want a low pressure grill, it's to single purpose. Also I wanted option to use other accessories to include grill. The coupler allows all that and is a 3 min install on existing tank.

Ouch

Our 195 has that port in conjunction with the outdoor stove (which slides out from the pass-through) and it works great (and is very handy).

If your r-pod came with an outdoor stove that connects to that port, that's a fine use for it.

But the r-pods without the optional outdoor stove that come with that port mounted on the frame, by itself, well, thats a lot less useful without buying a dedicated appliance and connector or two. Much simpler to just buy an off-the-shelf camping stove and use that...or so it seems to me.

Again, just my opinion.

I can agree with that.  Just want to make sure that the poster knows that the auxiliary LP port is not a complete waste.

We actually use both...the stove and the ever-ubiquitous baby Weber grill with its own tank of propane. Can sautée onions and peppers while grilling brats Big smile

FYI there is an adaptor for the low pressure supply for black stone grills. It does away with the regulator.

My 2015 has a low pressure propane port under the rear bumper (garage model) and came with a grill.  We don't use the grill, but have a Blackstone griddle.  The small canisters don't last long with the Blackstone, so I got an adapter hose and run the griddle directly from the LP port.

Just bought a Blackstone. What hoses/adaptors do I need?

Hello and welcome!

I am assuming by Blackstone, you are talking about a Blackstone griddle. It should come with what you need to connect to a disposable tank, but if you want to use a 20 lb cylinder, you need one of these:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/GasOne-50143-Steel-Braided-Propane-1lb-to-20lb-Converter-Adapter/207511713 - https://www.walmart.com/ip/GasOne-50143-Steel-Braided-Propane-1lb-to-20lb-Converter-Adapter/207511713

This is the link for the better quality steel wrapped hose. If you want to use it with your RPod's low pressure fitting, then someone else will need to provide the answer as I don't have a low pressure port in our 2016 RP179.

This will work if you have a propane grill port on your rPod:

https://www.amazon.com/MENSI-Quick-Connect-Extension-Compatible-Blackstone/dp/B081VYGNDQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=Z8ETC9H2S5LH&dchild=1&keywords=mensi+propane+gas+quick+connect+adapter+blackstone&qid=1597074566&sprefix=Mensi+Propane%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-3 - https://www.amazon.com/MENSI-Quick-Connect-Extension-Compatible-Blackstone/dp/B081VYGNDQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=Z8ETC9H2S5LH&dchild=1&keywords=mensi+propane+gas+quick+connect+adapter+blackstone&qid=1597074566&sprefix=Mensi+Propane%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-3

A search on Amazon for 'blackstone propane' will give the above, as well as several other options.
