Just joined the forum.  We have a 2020 195 with Sandbar interior.  Dual LP tanks and dual 12v batteries.  Zamp portable solar panels for boondocking.   Mods to date are removed the twin ottomans, changed the plastic pantry shelf brackets to metal, added another shelf in the pantry, added roll-out wire baskets in pantry, extended the bed to fit a real queen mattress, removed the hanging rod from the wardrobes and installed shelves, added doors under bed for access and installed wire basket roll-outs under the bed.  Also changed the tires to Goodyear.

Love it

Congratulations on the 195!

I have a 196 on order and would be interested in seeing pictures of the pantry and wardrobe mods.

Thanks.

Congratulations and welcome! Did you do the mods or have them done? I'm especially interested in the dual tanks and batteries. And thanks for the font mod as I can read it!  lol

Be careful about adding dual cylinders and batteries, your tongue weight will go way up. Dual batts will add about 100 lbs and an additional cylinder about 40 lbs. If you need those mods you are probably a boon docker so might be carrying water too. Depending on what model you have that can add another 150-200 lbs to the tongue. You can easily end up well over 500 lbs, so be sure your tow vehicle is good for that.

For dual batteries most folks go with two 6V golf cart batteries in series. Battery size is GC2. You will need new battery cases as well, and a single battery jumper. These will fit in the existing battery rack without modification.

There are several mounting kits for dual cylinders available. You will need to remove the existing single tank and mount the new kit. You can get an automatic switchover too.

Nice mods. Double check to make sure the medicine cabinet is properly mounted to the studs and not just hanging on the 1/8" wall board. One fix you might consider, if changing the shelf brackets in the pantry hasn't already addressed it; I added quarter round in the corners inside the door frame on each side from just above the bottom shelf to just above the top one. The shelves kept sliding forward against the pantry door and blocking it till then. Also put a couple command hooks on the wall left of the sink to hang the sink cover on to get it out of the way and added a paper towel holder above the sink per DW's direction. Taking the ottomans out opens things up nicely. Can see why you put doors under the full queen bed; I just stored enough stuff there that it added too much to the tongue weight.  Have fun!

Sounds like great mods. Do you have any pictures of extending the bed to fit the queen mattress and the doors under the bed?

Hi 1955Shoebox,
I want to replace those pantry shelf brackets too. Do you remember where you got them? They have to be kinda slim, and I didn’t find any that thin at Home Depot today. Thanks.

I used these in the pantry, and in the wardrobes next to the bed. They have clips that can be adjusted about every half inch or so. I have had these in my pantry for two years and I put a lot of weight on my shelves. Can goods, water, etc.. never had a problem.  You can get them at lowes/home depot too.

We put that type of a shelf system in our 179 pantry and it has worked out well. We mounted the shelves upside-down to provide a lip at the front to help keep things from sliding out.

Oh, I’ll check out the shelves and see if mine have a lip underneath. That’s a good idea!

I wish the fridge shelves had a lip. Our old 179 had that, but not this one, and sometimes our fridge is a jumbled mess when we get to camp. I’ll probably end up putting rods in there instead.

I use the dual Camco rods in the fridge. I also use them in the pantry to keep the tall stuff from tumbling over the shelf lip.

I use baskets in the pantry to keep stuff from flying. I have two baskets per shelf.  They're 16 x 11 x 6, They fit great, and keep everything under control. I can actually put large boxes of cereal in back of them as well. Makes it easy to use all the space.

We still had issues after replacing the plastic brackets with metal ones, in the pantry. The shelves collapsed. I'm thinking we'll have to use some kind of l-brackets and screw them in, even though they'll no longer be adjustable.

Any suggestions on how to clean the lower portion of the shower curtain? It seems complicated to remove it. Thanks!

We did the shelf fix also, and it improved things, but we still had a shelf fall now and again. But we can live with it.

I've had plastic shelf supports that had a built-in clip that locks the shelves in place. It is longer and a springy tab is on the top of the shelf when it is in place and that keeps the shelf from being able to bounce up and off the support. I don't know what kind of supports FR used, and we don't have one in which to look. These are similar to the ones I have seen before which are light tan:

I'll probably go with something like this after I get my 196, which is similar to the wire shelving system in my 179's pantry.

Hello again - sorry for the delay in responding.  The mods we did can be seen in the attached photos.  We replaced the plastic panty system with metal book shelf mounts from Rockler.  You will need to mount a strip on one side as the metal system is thinner.  Easy to do.  Gives you much improved strength and flexibility for shelf location.  Also added another shelf.  Wire baskets are ELPA from the container store.  Bottom slide mounts.  Same system under the bed.
