Replacement converter installed, arrived Friday from Walmart . Installed Friday about an hour or so. Everything back to working thanks all. That’s one expensive battery charger!!

Well, it does do a bit more than just a battery charger. It also supplies 12V to the RPod, even if the battery is disconnected. The caveat is that things work better with a battery to buffer the loads. Like all specialized equipment, it does cost more.

To stabilize the output the converter requires filtering which is done using some decent sized inductors and capacitors.  Its also a much higher current charger/power supply compared to your typical automotive battery charger. All that runs the cost up. PD, Samlex and Aims make more or less equivalent devices and they cost in the 200-400 dollar range.
