Hey, Podsters:

I'm not a fan of the floppy vinyl propane tank cover.  Will any commercially available single tank cover work for the R-Pod?  Thanks.

Yes, though finding a hard cover for a single tank used to be impossible..

This one works well for my 178. I did have to slightly modify the stock metal tank strap. Not a big deal.

Yes, those are wild ponies dining on grass while dumping tanks!

Have owned our double propane hard tank cover for nearly 10 years and have never lost the top piece.  Unfortunately nearly every cover is like the black one above where the door is mounted backwards and once the hold down screw loosens, the door flies off.  IF you mount the door properly, with the hold down screw toward the r-pod and not the tow vehicle, that scenerio will not play out.

Or, you could do as I did and attach the lid to the hinge side of the cover with zip-ties. Use one for the single tank cover located at the hole that is already there. The double tank cover will take two since there are two hold-down screws. The lid will stay in place, even if the hold-down screws fail to hold.

Mine flew off and I made a new one from a microwave cover and painted it black. Its been on there for 2 years and is free to replace when you find any sheet metal and have a grinder. Also it wont warp.

hey guys, I just bought a Camco single hard propane cover, and it seems there is a lot that needs to be done for it to fit my 2017 178.
Any one has done this before and can share your experience?
TIA.

The biggest issue I had when I got a single cover was the propane regulator. It was in the wrong place for the cover to fit. I expect that might be the your problem also. I did bend the plate enough to allow the cover to drop into place and re-mounted the regulator. I think I had to get a longer pigtail also. It has been a while so I am going from memory.

Good memory, those are the exact issues I am facing at the moment.

I have a plastic cover for two 20# tanks and experienced the same issue.  Simply remount the regulator and go to your local propane distributor and have them make a longer pigtail for you.  Measure first and add a few inches for comfort.

Can't the entire cover be installed rotated 180 degrees (not if it's already been modified to fit, obviously)? I'm pretty sure my dual tank cover can be dropped over the tanks in either orientation.

Most likely yes it can be, however in my case the pigtail had to be rerouted and replaced with a longer one to make it functional.

I have a single cover that I took off my 179 , I installed a second tank and now have a dual hard cover. It's yours if you want it.

I have both single and double. The double is on the RPod. The single is being used on my deck.

Like StephenH's recommendation, I installed a zip tie at each hinge joint to provide a tether in the event the wind tries to suck the lid off. Worked fine for many, many miles. The zip ties will get brittle after some time so make sure to replace them occasionally.
