Sadly after 11 year of owning our Rpod 171 and our Rpod 179, we have moved on to a new camper. We traded our 179 for a Vista Cruiser 19 CSK, which we were able to get fully loaded and it had just arrived from the factory, we were the first to look at it. The pod served us well and it was sad to trade her in.

It may be just me, but the Vista Cruiser looks a lot like the new R-pod 196 we just bought. The separate shower and walk around bed is a big selling point. Enjoy your new travel trailer

Hi Ricktoon,
It is very similar. We were looking at the 195, but our local dealer didnt have any on their lot so we could walk thru it and the 3 that they had coming in were already spoken for so we couldnt view them, and told us it would be roughly 12 weeks or so if we ordered one from the factory. So when we found the Vista Cruiser we figure we would grab it. definitely the big selling points. We also liked the bigger refrigerator and the 3 burner stove with the oven.
thanks, you too.

Leo,
the question is -"can you fish from a vista cruiser?"
Safe travels with your new rig

Hope you enjoy your new Vista Cruiser we have the discontinued 19BFD they seem to be well built as far as RV's are built. There are some differences from the r-rpods one is the water tank is located inside the camper and the axle has springs not a torsion axle as the r-pods have. The newer Vistas have the slide windows not the the awning windows and they have a larger single bowl sink and the frames are different I think the newer frames are stronger. We had the smaller r-pod 171 so the Vista 19 foots are quite a bit larger with width and length being larger. We love the extra space especially traveling with two dogs. There is not much of a owners forum compared to the r-pod owners forum. The big thing I think that the r-pods and Vista cruisers are similar is the one piece fiberglass roof. All and all both campers are good campers with the r-pod being the most popular.

Leo, we hope you enjoy your Vista Cruiser.  When we sold our 172, the Vista Cruiser was our first choice for a replacement, but getting one out west for a doable price proved impossible.  We settled for a FR Sonoma made in CA which had very similar layouts and weight.  The walk around bed and full bath were a big improvement.

We are real happy with the dry bath, walk around bed, and the extra room.
The extra rooms is really nice. We cant wait to use it, we have reservations in May at Assateague Island to give it a good checking out!
I see what you meant about their forum, joined a couple days ago and havent heard from anyone yet. Really enjoying it so far!
Thanks!!

Leo I found your post on the Gulf Stream owners forum I think if you place your post in the travel trailer section you are more likely to get a response. There are few other posts there from Vista Cruiser owners but not many.

Wow Leo!! Good for you! Doesn't mean you have to move away, ya know. You need to remember your humble beginnings!Smile

BTW, hope you made your reservations @ Assateague or will do as soon as reservation window opens. We were down there first week of November and the place was packed (Bayside). Never seen it that crowded. Usually we are the only ones there 'cept for a few. Rangers said it's been crazy busy. A14 is our site.

Congrats again !!

fred

Thanks Fred!! We are definitely not moving away!! Going to get active here again. We went to the State Park this fall (Sept 27-30) site A-8. Loved it caught 42 Bluefish, a flounder, a whiting and 2 4 ft sharks!! Had a great time!
We have reservations at the State Park A-8 for 4 days and the National Park oceanside 12 for 4 day this coming May.
Really enjoy the area. We will then head down to First Landing State Park for a bit more fishing!
Take care!

Speaking of Vista Cruisers, for anyone interested C&D recently posted this retrospective on a 68 with a 455 engine swap.

Just shows how much drive trains have changed as a garden variety current gen Buick Enclave (Buick is the closest thing as Olds is long gone) weighs about the same or more and is about a second faster to 60 and clocks about the same time in the quarter. That's with less than half the engine displacement, but with 3x as many speeds in the auto tranny. The Vista Cruiser was 15 inches longer but 12 inches shorter and surprisingly was 2 inches narrower.

Not interested I prefer a vehicle with seat belts and head rests but I think it would have no problem towing a r-pod. Disapprove

I too have sold the RP-179.  I had purchased it to follow my grandsons on their sports travel trips and I had a great time and it performed well but due to COVID there were no trips in 2020.  After things settle a little bit I may be back.  I particularly like the RP-202 but need to check it out personally.

I want to thank those who contribute to the forum, especially the ones that took their time to share their expertise.

Chuck

We were lucky, covid didnt mess with our 2020fall trip. our last trip in the 179, started at the end of Sept Clarksboro KOA in NJ, then Assateague State Park, then Oregon Inlet campground on Cape Hatteras, then onto Cliff at the Neuse in NC, Myrtle Beach State Park, then back to Cliff at the Neuse, First Landing State Park in VA, Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware, last night in the Pod was at New York City North/Newburgh KOA before ending up back home and trading her on Dec 1.
All the campgrounds were great, Only one took your temperature. There were plenty of restaurants open . And the fishing was excellent!!
Hoping to plan a trip for 2022 to go back out west to Yellowstone area, we had a great trip out there in 2019.
