Hello from snowy Arkansas!  I'm considering trading our 2017.5 179 for a new 196.  We love the 179, but miss the walk around queen we had in our previous trailer.  The 196 scratches that itch.  But I was wondering where Forest River put the water pump on this model.  I've seen walkthrough videos but the presenter never mentioned this.  I'd love it if it were somewhere easier to access than under the bed (where it is in our 179).

If anyone else has made this same trade, I'd also love to hear the pluses and minuses of the 196.  Thanks!

I'm not sure, but I believe it is just inside the storage compartment on the slide side of the camper. It is behind a removable panel.  I haven't seen it personally but that is where the rv antifreeze suction hose is located so I assume the pump is there too.  My camper was winterized when I bought it so I haven't removed the panel to check for sure. I love my 196 especially the dry bath and walkaround queen.  Tons more storage space than my 172.

Yes, the pump is behind a removable panel accessed through the storage compartment door on the slide side of the 196.  Panel has 4 screws to remove and you can see the pump and antifreeze hose there as well as valve to bypass fresh water tank. I am planning to add either velcro or magnets to the panel to make it easier to access. The pump essentially sits under the small raised area next to the bed on the slide side.

Pete and Ricktoon -- Thanks.  I looked back at a walkthrough video and saw the panel.  Ricktoon: How does your Colorado tow your trailer?  I've got a 16 year old 3/4 ton diesel I pull with, but am ready to move to a smaller truck.  I've owned two Dodge Dakotas and loved them.  Looking forward to getting back into a midsize truck.

Colorado is a 2019 Club cab with short bed and the factory tow package - Trailer Brake Controller, a trailer hitch, a 7-pin connector, Trailering Assist, and a Tow/Haul Mode. Can tow up to 7,000 pounds. 3.6L V6 Engine. It does a great job of towing the 196. I have an Equalizer WDH hitch which helps and is easy to connect. Wanted enough power for Western hills. Generally tow at 60-65 mph and get 12 miles per gallon. Wanted a truck that was powerful, but still fit in our garage.

Any of the midsize trucks are a perfect tow vehicle for the 195/196. I pull my 195 with my Frontier and have never had an issue. I can maintain 65 up a long climb and keep between 3000 - 4000 rpm.  Even passing cars on an upgrade, I don't think I've ever passed 4200 r.p.m. Actually, the new Frontuer is actually even more powerful than my 2015, They've added about 50 more horse power, and now have a 9 speed tranny.
