I just read this article from CNN. Nothing much new from earlier reports about the electric F10 except that the truck will be released next week.

there  was a lot of discussion about this truck in an earlier series of posts. I'm sure one of our members will have one soon enough and give the review.

I heard it won't actually be available for purchase until next year sometime. Supposed to be the most powerful F150 ever. And zero drop off in performance with altitude. He he.

It will be interesting to see what the range is. From what I've read it will be initially targeted toward fleet sales where it can be charged back at the shop at night, rather than at private owners taking cross country vacations towing travel trailers.

Now the competition will begin.  F-150 vs. Tesla pickup

I think the demographics of the target customers of the two trucks are totally different.

Ford has created a traditional looking truck that should appeal to current truck owners and businesspeople who need a practical vehicle and are looking at things like total cost of ownership. Tesla has come up with something that appeals to folks who want to imagine themselves living in a SciFi or Marvel movie.

That's all good, there's plenty of room in the ginormus US pickup truck market for both entries, and for GM, Rivian, and Lordstown if any of them ever get it together.

I will stick my neck out (not!) and predict that towing mileage will be abysmal.

I'll guess 150 miles towing an rpod (summer conditions). Which could work for some if their destinations always have electricity.

The tests I've seen suggest that as soon as you start towing with an EPUT (Electric Pickem-Up Truck) your range drops precipitously.

Electric trucks are a great idea, but not for what I would say is our primary use, long distance driving (to visit family) and towing (as well as day to day errands we can't do by walking or cycling). Now a hybrid f150 as discussed in another thread is what I consider a viable option once they get through the first several versions and get the bugs out (as in any deployment of a new technology). I shudder to think what the cost of a new truck with the top capability battery/onboard generator would be here in Canada...we will need to be saving our pennies to be able to look at one in 10 years or so. But that is the one I am watching to see how it works out. It gives the best balance and ticks all the boxes for errand running up to and including towing long distances. And I didn't even mention the need to be able to do everything in the extremely cold winters we have here in Ontario's Near North.

I think a plug in hybrid truck would probably be the best option. The local trips could by 100% electric, long distance you'd have the ICE.

The battery in the F150 hybrid is tiny, 1.5 kwh and the electric motor is only 47hp, so it can't really operate in electric only mode. The truck has been optimized for performance rather than economy. Very little if any efficiency improvement over the non hybrids on the highway. It does perform better in city driving, but if that's not your use case then the only real benefit is the 7kw ac inverter output.

Just say "no" to trucks that can't do truck stuff.
