I had an issue with my right turn signal.....it would work for a while then fail.  My Escape gives a warning when the lights aren't working.  I thought it was a faulty plug or connection.  My 7 pin outlet used the 4 pin trailer plug that came with the Escape to power up the brake/signal lights.  I cut out the plug and spliced it all together thinking that would give a better connection.....no dice.  I then took a 12v test light and determined I was getting signal light thru car plug and then thru the Hayes anti sway unit.  There was a junction box that I assume was factory but may have been owner installed.  I pulled the cover and found some really loose connections.  When I checked thru all the connections were loose, not sure if this happened from road vibration but doubtful.  I tightened all the connections and turn signal works fine....probably will help charging system as well.  Just a heads up that if you have that junction box the terminal connections need to be checked.
