My wife and I have been talking about going to Alaska for a number of years and it looks like next year may be it (depending on border restrictions, etc.)   We traded in our 179 for a 195 because of the floor plan and the 195 has a front window. We have been warned (by former Alaska visitors) of the danger of flying gravel and have seen threads on this forum about broken front windows.

So I know that they make "bras" for cars in order to protect the front end paint.  I'm wondering if someone makes a similar product that would fit a 195 pod.  And how would someone attach it?

Heavy duty Velcro? If you have an upholstery supply like Mill Outlet Village near you, look in there for some heavy vinyl that is fleece lined. Get enough to cover the window with a bit of overlap. Sew industrial strength Velcro to it around the edges. Use the adhesive Velcro for the frame of the window. Stick the cover on while traveling.

The other alternative would be to make it with something rigid and put a hinge on the top. When you want to see through the window while stopped, swing the cover up and brace. I think this is how a lot of trailers do this. I'm just as happy that our 179 does not have a window in front.

We are still cautiously optimistic that we will be able to make that trip next year also. We were thinking that we would be taking off from here in May, dates to be determined.

As I understand it, the window breakage is more of a mounting bracket problem, than it  is a debris strike problem. Some windows have broken with the camper stationary in camp. I suppose it won't hurt to help prevent debris hitting the front, but I just wanted to let let you know what i've heard. My 195 was a first run model, it came pre-front window upgrade, and I probably wouldn't have bought it with a window. It seems the front window was a popular feature many years back, especially on class C units, but then went out of most models due to leaking, and breakage issues. Why they would bring it back, I don't know. I guess they let the people forget, then repeat the, what I consider mistakes.
