Just wanted to see if anyone is interested in a NE Roundup.  Then depending on interest, we can vote on a campground (anything from NY finger lakes to VT to Maine coast).

Cool.  There seems to be a lot of Pod activity in the south and central parts of the US as well as in Canada on this forum but it doesn't seem like there are a lot in New England.  There are several Pod dealers up here so there have got to be lots of Pod People around.  Let's see how many announce themselves here and then we can plan something.  This is our first full season with our Pod and we're planning to spend weekends everywhere from NY (Finger Lakes) to VT (Quechee), NH, MA (Berkshires, Cape Cod),  & ME (Bar Harbor is supposed to be nice!).

We'll be in Ogunquit, ME with our 'pod August 10-14 for a family reunion.  Not sure which campground yet but there are several that look promising.

We're interested. How does one go about organizing something like this? Timing would be our biggest constraint, as I'm sure it is with others.

I'd say set a time and place and then let people book a spot for themselves.

If ya'll want to shoot for Ogunquit, here is the list of campgrounds we are considering.  They are all between 3 and 7 miles from the center of Ogunquit, the denser part of the town right on the ocean, not where Google Maps puts their little red dot.  We chose that town because it isn't far from 95 and its in the southern tip of the state (as opposed to driving another 6 hours to get somewhere on the northern coast), plus some of our family will be staying at a resort in the area which we've received a personal recommendation for (Meadowmere).

I'm good with Ogunquit, ME as the location for this roundup, especially if it means we can have a forum admin in the group.  I'd like to tentatively suggest the weekend of Aug 13-14th.  We'd probably come up a day early and maybe stay longer or continue up the Maine coast to Bar Harbor after.  I can call the campground and see if we can get a group discount.  I'd also like to suggest we have a pot-luck dinner and communal fire on the Sat evening.  Looking at those campgrounds I would suggest we stay at Dixon's as it seems to have reasonable rates/policies, good location and nice wooded property.

Pinderosa looks to be a field next to I95.
Beach Acres is no pets, no credit cards, and no advance reservations!
Burnette's looks great but they don't accept pets.
Wells Beach has nice attractions but is really expensive.
Ocean View looks very nice but they have a 4-night minimum to make a reservation.
Sea-Vu looks like it has very few trees and is more for bigger RV's.  Also looks pretty crowded.

I would pick Dixon's first and maybe Ocean View second choice.  I spoke directly with Techntrek and he's asking his family up there what they think of Dixon's.  What does everyone else think?

I don't know that we will be able to make this roundup, but I agree that Dixon's looks to be the best for our taste. We are more the woodsy type. I'm pretty familiar with the area. We spend a few days every February in Wells. The teacher needs quiet time away from the kids. The location of Dixon's is a little south of the more congested Ogunquit/Wells area. The Rt. 1 traffic can be brutal during the summer months.
Unfortunately I've never paid much attention to the campgrounds when up there, but now owning a TT, we'll be more mindful of them.

Looks like we'll definitely be at Dixon's Aug 10-14, arriving late on the 10th and leaving early on the 14th.  Its a 10 hour drive one-way for us.

Techntrek, what site do you have?
We are very interested and can make reservations any time. We will probably use this w.e. as our jump off for a weeks vacation in NH, VT and the Adirondaks.

Ok, now he's ticking me off.  He tried to negotiate with the owner's of Dixon's so our extended family wouldn't have to pay the visitation fee when they come in (some are staying at local hotels).  They wouldn't budge so he didn't make the reservations yet.  He's talking of maybe going to a place we considered earlier this year (Point Sebago, which is on a huge lake about 45 minutes inland from Ogunquit).  Very nice place and I wouldn't mind going there, but the decision was made and everyone has been told - family and on this forum.  I should have made the reservations myself.  Argh!

I feel your pain! We are still open for location if it is necessary to change on your end. Keep us updated. We've been further down east and way up along the NH border inland, but never camped in the southern beaches area. It wil be new to us where ever we park the Pod.   W&C

Ok, we will be at Ocean View.  The downside for a roundup is their 4-night minimum for camping in July and August.  Maybe its a slow year because of gas prices and the economy and if you called them they would allow a shorter reservation, I don't know.  When my father called they did say they had more sites available.  I will be on site Z.  If the 4-night minimum is an issue I understand if everyone wants to go elsewhere.

Thanks for the update Techntrek. I will give them a call today to see if they will make any concessions on the four day rule. If not we can use the park as a hq and do day trips to explore the area, inland, north and south. Then we can plan the rest of our NE trip.

Hi everyone. I just got off the phone with the nice gentleman from Oceanview Campground. He has only a couple-three units left for a three night minimum. If you would like to join Techntrek and Chris and me, for a mini round up it is time to call and make a reservation. It sounds like they save their calls for later in the day (after5pm),so if you call before that, leave a message and they call back.
Tech, we have site V at the other end of the road from you.
We'd love to have more company. This fellow didn't know what an R-Pod was!

It will be nice to meet you there!  At least he was willing to cut the minimum stay by a night.  V looks like a huge site, the owner told my Dad that Q was fairly big (where he'll be) and it doesn't look nearly as big as V on the map.

The pic in my avatar is a cropping from a NASA press shot, the pics I posted in my trip report a few weeks ago are mostly mine - the only one that isn't was that same NASA press shot, I think it was the first one.

Edit:  I just went back and looked at those pics, I never posted the one I took of the shadow of the exhaust on the cloud cover.  I also posted a link to pics taken by an airline pilot above the cloud cover, is this what you are talking about?

Just wanted to point out that if anyone still wants to join us during August in Maine, that there is the Maine Lobster Festival (formerly known as the Maine Seafood Festival) the weekend before (Aug 3-7) in Rockland.  This festival is a kid-friendly carnival-plus-lobster event not be be confused with the $$ grownup foodie event, Harvest on the Harbour, in Portland in October.

We haven't decided how much we like town carnivals (even though this one has lobster rolls) so are still planning the rest of our Maine trip but are confirmed for the roundup.  Hope this info helps those still planning.

Here are the links to the above festivals:

One week to go!  It looks like my family and my parents will be caravaning up starting on Tuesday evening, doing the Wal-Mart thing that night, probably arriving in Ogunquit Wednesday evening.  My parents are still ok with poping up at Wal-Mart, I think my mother wants to be able to say they've done it.  Cool  This will be the 4th time we've been in our 'pod @ Wal-Mart (plus another night just in our van).

Should be interesting, a good friend of ours and her son may be joining us.  Without any extra room in the 'pod I think they are going to sleep in the van like we did.  That will make packing a little more difficult since chairs and EZ-ups can't just stay in the back of the van overnight.  I'm going to try to put the awnings under the dinette and some chairs under the bed - I don't want to have to do much rearranging once we get off the highway (other than ripping all the seats out of the van).  The obvious solution would be to put them in my parent's popup, but my brother and one of my uncles will also be in there so I don't want to impose.  At least once we get to Ogunquit they will be staying in a tent so we can leave all the seats in the van for day trips.

If you guys check in here, we must have missed everyone out at dinner or sightseeing.  My wife and I walked around the loop around 8 but there was no sign of life at either of your campsites.  I heard that someone stopped by our site while I was in the shower but we left for dinner right after I finished.

Hopefully we can catch up tomorrow evening, our group is leaving in the morning to go to L.L. Bean for the day.  Not my first choice of things to see while in Maine, but that was the group decision.  Hope to see you when we get back!

Hi y'all, made back home to central NJ at about 7:30pm. Thru the rain and traffic and wrong decisions about the right roads to avoid the NYC traffic...
So we are here. We are very happy to have met you folks and formed new friendships. We hope you had a good time at our mini roundup and enjoyed the dinner and fellowship last night!

A tough slog home for us, too.  What was a 9 hour drive up turned into 13 hours on the way back, although about a half-hour of the extra time was due to a detour into Rhode Island (now we can say we've been in every east coast state this summer).  The rest was traffic jams due to the rain, starting on I-84 west of Hartford, CT.  While some areas like NYC had record-breaking rainfall, amazingly we barely ran into much of it ourselves.

We had a great time, too, we really enjoyed the conversation and company.  On the way home   Amber echoed what I said to everyone, we had a better time than we did with family (at times).  Embarrassed    Before we left I walked around the loop again, probably around 8:10 and said goodbye to Chris and Walt, there was no sign of life from Greg & Tracy's site.  Sorry to miss you guys, at least I got to see your 152 from the outside.  You can give me the grand tour next time!  Hopefully the other couple will check in here so we can stay in touch.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at a future Roundup!

Hopefully Daniel and Elise will drop by the forum and say HI.  It was quite a pleasant conincidence to have them there at the same time.  We might have to organize a Canadian Roundup as well ;)

I thought about knocking but didn't in case you decided to sleep in a bit.  Even worse, we didn't pull out of our site until 8:40.  Cry  Oh well, we'll make sure there is a next time.

A trip to Canada is on our to-do list!  Amber wants to visit Niagara Falls, so maybe that can all get wrapped into one trip.
