We love our dome. although we haven't had too many experiences with really buggy areas, we haven't had been really bothered. the dome is tight to the ground if you peg it down (although the risers make that a bit dicey). the screening that comes with it that goes along the bottom of the pod to screen the under side has to be modified to make it fit well. All that being said, we found it to be a real advantage for extra living space. See our photos under the winter campout thread to see how we have it set up. We use a string of LED Christmas lights which don't seem to attract the bugs and don't use the yellow porch light (makes you look sick :) ). We also use a poly rug to provide under foot comfort and keep the dirt level down.

Love the R-dome when it's needed. Last summer I camped out for a week and it rained pretty hard for a couple of days. The R-dome was great, especially with the grandkids along. I have a small aluminum table with benches which gave them a special place to eat and play games under the dome. We have never used the R-Dome with the sides or front on it, we just use it as an awning and it works great. I do roll it up and then clamp it tight with 4 or 5 spring clamps in place instead of taking it down and out of the track if the wind gets real strong or we go away for the day. Welcome and enjoy. I've never used one, but I can't see how the dome could be/would be bug-proof. Isn't the entire front trailer side exposed when using the dome? The dome covers the front-side and both sides, but the back along the door-side wall of the R-Pod still has that huge opening underneath, doesn't it?

Speaking from experience, it is not bug proof even with the screening that goes along the bottom of the Pod. However, we have found if it is really buggy, spay the area inside of the dome. | The dome came with the camper...wasn't an option, but it's sounding better all the time. We can have mosquitoes quite bad up here in Manitoba, so we're really hoping that we can get it completely bug proofed with a little tweaking. |

Definently not bug proof. At the very top of the front door where the two zippers meet so that you might remove the front paneling if you wish there is always a small hole of some sort by the time you get the dome assembled and staked down. How large bugs find that one hole is a mystery to me but we've had a few wasps here and there, cicadas, a few big moths and whatnot. And the little outside gnat bugs that swarm around at night will find access as well. But as someone else mentioning, we spray a little bit of the bug repellant we use on ourselves near that opening and around some of the screening at the bottom sometimes and keep a citronella candle burning inside with us if we're outside in the dome late playing games or whatever. That does nicely if there are a lot of biting bugs out and about.
