Recently returned from an awesome 2900 mile journey from Omaha, NE to Evergreen, CO, Grand Tetons, the Yellowstone. We used our electric skillet outside to cook steaks, chops and chicken, however, we would love to purchase a small propane, or electric barbecue. I have seen the Baby Q propane on Amazon, just not to sure about propane.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

My Coleman Roadtrip LX may be larger than you are looking for, but it does a great job for me. It fits (barely) in the outside storage compartment of our RP 175. It has both a large griddle and grill, We use it with a small propane bottle when camping, and have a hose to hook up to a 5 gal. tank at home. It comes with a nice stand for use at home, but we don't take the stand with us when camping. It is now the only grill we have/need for home and camping.

I'm a charcoal guy both at home and away. I use a Weber "Go-Anywhere" charcoal when we're camping:

http://www.weber.com/explore/grills/portable-charcoal-series/charcoal-go-anywhere-2 - http://www.weber.com/explore/grills/portable-charcoal-series/charcoal-go-anywhere-2

It's only $50, it works great and fits inside the pass-through storage.

We have one also.  Have had it for years.  Works just fine.  After the second season the igniter died, but easy to light with match.  Safe Travels.

We went out and bought a Weber Q120 when we got the pod for the easy cleanup.  The newer model Q120s have a taller dome and thermometer.

I personally prefer lump hardwood charcoal but for cooking things quickly on the road the propane grill is easier.  At home we use the Lodge Sportsman Grill.

If weight and cost is not an issue, and all you're doing is grilling steaks, I heard good things about the Mini Green Egg ($300) and also the Cobb Grill $100 (the latter has some sort of Teflon coating).

FYI, all the above don't fit in the side cargo compartment without the lids being detached.

I have the Weber baby Q and love it.  It fits under my storage seat compartment, under the dinette table.  I tend to use the grill for most of the cooking, except for the morning eggs and sausage which I do on the cooktop.

We love our little Smokey Joe. Can get a good hot fire from a dozen briquettes. We have even used it as a fire ring when one wasn't available!

Following up with some of the discussions.  I'm wanting to buy the Coleman LXE gril.  Only problem is that it's set up as a high pressure grill.  It has it's own pressure regulator attached.

Now on our Rpod we have a low pressure line already that comes from our main 20lb tank up front.  Since I can't then connect to a 2nd regulator I'm wondernig if anyone has any ideas.

Some forums have suggested just removing the regulator from the new grill but it seems then finding compatable connection pieces are an issue.  And I don't particulary want to run a new line that proceeds the regulator at the front of the Pod either.

I don't think most of you have that existing propane line in the back of your trailers like we do so this might not help much but any suggestions are appreciated!

I had high pressure and low pressure lines on my popup, the outside grill was a high-pressure line.  The high-pressure regulators are red if I remember right and you'll need one for your grill -  removing the regulator on the grill won't allow it to operate correctly, unless your pod already has a red regulator.

Yuh I'm must today starting to realize the difference with the high and low pressure lines, and what exactly they mean.  The one that my Pod has to the back grill is a low pressure on.  So even if I could attach the new coleman grill without it's regulator it wouldn't matter because it would still be a low pressure line I guess.

How annoying!Ouch

You'll have to add a high pressure regulator at the tank and run a separate line wherever you need it.  Probably easier to just take a 2nd tank and put it where you need it in-camp.  A 10 pound tank would be easier for this task, instead of another 20 pounder.

I have the weber Go anywhere LP version, I have a two LP tank setup, I bought a adaptor hose that screw on to my Lp tank and the other end to the BBQ, so I unhook one of my LP hoses form a tank, and install and screw on the bbq hose to it and I'm ready to go much better than using those small non refillable throw away tanks and less to take with me on a road trip,  less than 1 minute, and I ready to bbq

Can the Coleman roadtrip grill be hooked up directly to the propane connection on the R-Pod?  So we wouldn't have to use the small, disposable propane tanks.

Are you talking about the AUX Propane Connection on the R-Pod? If so it is low pressure. You can't connect a grill with a built in regulator to the line, in other words you can't regulate twice. You have to modify grill connections to eliminate the regulator. CAMCO makes an adapter that allows you to run off your on board tank, by adding low pressure and high pressure ports in line with your present propane system, I use that as I don't have an AUX Propane connection.

You can buy an adapter hose that will feed it straight from the 20 pound tank, using a splitter valve, OR, you can modify the grill to accept low pressure to run it from the Pod's low pressure port, if your Pod has one.

http://www.amazon.com/Barbour-International-Classic-Y-Splitter-7633/dp/B003JCL816 - Splitter Valve. You will then need a 20lb to 1lb adapter hose.

Convert to low pressure.

actually, the regulator is not built in.  it came with the grill but you have to screw it on every time you want to use the grill.  I'll figure out how to get a picture on here.

If the regulator is not built in, you just need the connecting hose. From the AUX connection on Pod to the regulator connection on grill.

Yes... as was posted above, you can either use a hose with an end that fits the 5gallon tank on one end, and the 1 pound bottle connection on the other, continuing to run on high pressure..

OR,

You can convert that assembly, by removing the regulator and and adding the parts to plug into the low pressure feed provided on your Pod.

OR,

You can continue to pay $17 a gallon for propane in 1 pound cylinders.

Yep. For years I had a plow disk, I welded center hole in and mounted legs on. I cooked everything on that country Wok. I still miss that cooker.
