Hot off the presses, apparently.  I went to FR's website to check on the dimensions of another pod and noticed a little yellow "New" next to a model number I hadn't heard about.  So I clicked on it to see the specs... no specs!  It is so new FR doesn't even know yet.  But they do have the floorplan up.  Appears to be like the 177 with the queen and slide-out, but with a full U-dinette.

On my monitor, the distance from the end of the trailer to the "ST" designated point is 6".  That appears to me to be (approximately) the length of our 177, and would scale to about 3' per inch.  If so, the new floorplan comes in at 21'.

Hmmm.....

Seems like the GVW and tongue weight may be pushing the envelope of some of our popular TV's, but I guess we'll know when the factory spec's are published.

That would make it out of our TV's comfort zone!

I see the "PT" points, for 'pass through, I assume, at the same location as our 177, but the "ST", for 'storage (?)', looks like outside access to the area under the dinette seat.  Boy, do I wish that were the case in the 177's.  What a convenient place for the set-up items!

Getting up there- like a 181 in size! I can't say that I like the door swing on the bathroom. If it was the other side, it makes convenient dressing room area behind the door, likevon the 171. This way it opens in your face when you get out of bed.

The door opens that way on the slide-out versions so that you can access the bathroom when the slide-out is in.

Our door in the 177 swings like that,,,you can get into the bathroom when the slide is in,,,like when you are traveling. Also, if someone is at the dinette and someone sleeping in the bed, having the bathroom door opens provides some darkness and privacy to the sleeper. We added a curtain to do that too.

The dinette is the same size as the one in my 173 so the table is probably about 40 to 42 inches long. I will measure mine tonight.

Are all of the cusions on the U Dinnette removable so you have the full length for sleeping?  I would hope so.

yes they are and when you do you get a sleeping surface the size of a short queen. I don't take the cushion backs for the corners with me when I travel because I Usually leave the bed down and the cushions just get put in the TV because there is no room for them in the camper.

This is basically a 182G with a queen bed instead of the garage.

It is lighter than the 182G though about 200 lbs heavier that my 173 that will be the weight of the slide I think.

Hi
I'm planning on buying the 178 and wonder if you've seen it with the 19" flat screen TV? Does it have a cd/am/fm radio/ dvd too, where the tv is? I'm confused re this. One dealer said it is a flat screen and radio etc is included too.
( not the Combo unit) Another said it is just a tv, but we could also order the Combo unit to have cd & radio. We were told there are inside/ outside speakers. Anyone know which entertainment centre is correct?
Thanks!

The dealer we purchased our R-Pod 177 from in December (Poulbo in Tacoma, WA) did have a 178 on the lot at that time that we looked at.  We thought long and hard about the two but decided on the 177 because it was a bit lighter and a bit shorter than the 178.

Additional comment -

After looking more carefully at the specs a couple of posts up, and comparing those to ones on the 177 in a brochure we have,  I'm not so sure I'm right about the 178 being longer and heavier than the 177??

Hi HavaPod,
Do you remember what the entertainment system was in the 178 you checked out? Was it the Combo unit, or the 19" flat screen by the door area. If so, did the larger TV have a radio/cd system mounted by it too?

Also ,FYI the 178 ship weight is 2535 lbs., length total 20', hitch wt. is 257 lbs.

Hello Podwannabees,

My wife and I can't recall for sure, but believe it might have been the same type of combo unit with the small TV that the 177 has.   I've sent an email to our salesperson to see if he can check it out for sure and when he gets back to me I'll let you know for sure.

HavaPod,
Thanks so much for your reply. We have finally got all the info ironed out and are clear on what our 178 will have.
We decided to opt out of either tv system and buy our own 19" tv/dvd combo, as our dealer suggested, & have it installed when we go to get our pod. There's a place to install it by the door entrance.
Can't wait to get our new pod!!
