Well looks like I may be looking at yet another new Tow Vehicle again.  I have gone through a few since 2009 when we bought the r-pod.  My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 got hit yesterday by some kids horse playing around whith their car.  Wedged their car under the truck as they pushed the truck into another parked SUV.  All got out and walked away and sheet metal can be replaced.  Body Shop thinks most likely it will be totaled.  I stopped and looked at 2013 Toyota Tundra Crew Cab Fully loaded!  Nice Truck (high price but lots of room to work down) or should I bite the bullet and start looking at diesels?  No I do Not plan to upgrade the Camper to a larger unit if anything I want to go down to a teardrop.  I also own a Truck Camper that fits into a short bed 1/2 ton truck.

I have a 2011 tundra crew max loaded and it's great, it pulls the rpod very easily.  They have TONS of rear leg room.

I looked at a diesel but went with a medium sized gas engine. Dealers wanted an additional $6000-$8000 for a diesel, which has at most a 2-3 mpg advantage over a gas engine. I estimated that I would have to drive an extra 40,000-50,000 miles to justify the price. Not including the premium cost of diesel here in MN. Of course, a diesel has more torque and engine compression braking.

Check with tekntrek about his Suburban.  You'd love it.  Can't say much for the mileage, however.  Safe Travels.

Well I got Good News from the body shop.  The insurance company was going to total it due to the fact it was a 2001 but the Body Shop fought with them and WON!  The truck only has 52,000 miles on it so the Vaule of it was more than the insurance wanted to give.  They will be repairing it.  They have always done a fine job at everything I have thrown for over 20 years now.

Good!  Would be a shame to junk a relatively low-mileage vehicle.  So do you know if the kids were punished for being morons?
