Could not believe it till we smelled the propane and noticed the teeth marks. Happened a couple days before we started on this cross country trip. I was able to locate a replacement line before we left Virginia. We're now in Texas and headed for Tucson.

While it was kinda nasty, I'm glad we found and fixed before we hit the road.

when we had the other camper seasonal at a camp ground we used to have the same problem.  ended up putting in all copper tubing.  Others used to wrap them in foil to keep them fro chewing.

Been there, done that.  Note that even the "aluminum foil" trick is not fool-proof.  The squirells here even ate throught that.  Find a hunk of heater hose that will slide over the propane line.  Then wrap that with chicken-wire.  That's the only combo that has worked for me.

I hate squirrels.  They've cost me thousands in damage to the house.

To me squirrels are nothing more than rats with a bushy tail.

Shoot em and eat em. I love fired squirrel with fresh sliced tomato. cut up in small pieces, roll in Kentucky colonel seasonend flour and chicken fry them babies. when outside is crispy and brown remove from skillet and place them in a corning ware dish with no lid, put that in an oval baking pan with 1 inch of water, put lid on baking pan and put in oven at 200 d/f steam em for about 1 hour and thats some good eating.

I agree with the "rats with bush tails" description.  I feel the same way.  Out of curiosity, what does a squirrel taste like?  Please don't say squirrel.  :)

I used to eat them.  To much trouble to clean.  Now I shoot them and feed them to the catfish (i.e., throw them in the lake).

Squirrels haven't found my propane line yet   ...but they did chew several holes in my Pod cover <argh>

Turns out they don't like moth crystals :-)

With a single shot pellet rifle my count of those things is 95 without leaving my house.  That is in about 1.5 years.  I have seen them chew through RV water hose also.

They taste a little like dark meat of chicken with a nutty (hickory) background flavor. I love fried squirrel, just hav'nt had any for a while. The small greys are better eating than the old grey beard fox squirrels. Fry em up on a cast iron skillet.

Boy does this bring back memories!  I used to hunt them with a 22 rifle when I was a kid in PA.  Good eating!  These things down here are just too small to mess with.  I bag them and put them with the trash.
The 55+ community I live in is a Florida Bird Sanctuary.  Lots of bird feeders.  In other words squirrel feeders.  The place is thick with them.  The pellet gun I use belongs to the man that owns this place.  He wants me to thin them out a little.

I probably average 150 year with my trusty pellet gun.  All the neighbors use shotguns.

Shotguns for the squirrels?  I guess that takes the worry out of what to do with the carcass.  LOL

I've butchered everything from from a snake to a cow and the only thing that has ever gagged me (smell wise) is squirrel.

What do they taste like.  To me, they are a rat with a big tail.  I don't think I could ever eat one, but am curious as to their flavor.

Well... you don't use 4's and shoot 'em point blank. I have dropped them from a tree when they were hit with a single 8 shot.

I mostly use a .22 myself, but have taken plenty with a good pellet gun since they made that a legal way to hunt them here a couple years ago.

And I hate to say it, they taste like squirrel. Not quite a "dark meat" but not white either. I generally stew them, but like them fried or braised and then added to gravy over biscuits or mashed potatoes. We very rarely buy meat in this house. (Just pork, actually)

Danthoman:  I like catfish and I don't like squirrels. Sounds like we have a plan!  Thumbs Up

Works for me.  One of the best fishing spots I've found is right off my dock.  Drop by and wet a line sometime (after it gets warm).
