Greetings!
Been a long time fan of R-Pods and have been looking for one for the past couple of years.  Finally decided to take the leap and get one.  We have been camping with a 1968 Play-Mor 10.5' canned ham trailer and with my wife, a 4 yo, 1 yo and a 95 lbs boxer bull mastiff, we have quickly run out of room.

I won an auction on eBay for a 2010 R-Pod 176T and will be driving from Atlanta, Ga to Walcott, Ia to pick it up on Friday.

Have been reading a bunch about them from this forum and others and am excited to join the community.  We'll be towing it with our 2007 Honda Odyssey.  I added a plate and fin transmission cooler and a class III hitch when we got the Play-Mor and will be adding a weight distributing hitch and brake controller when we pick it up at the dealer.

Perhaps we'll see some of you on the road!

Welcome!

That's quite an initial adventure.  Safe travels, and check out the list of pHp'ers along your route- just in case.

Thanks for the tip, Bob and Joyce.  Will definitely look into it and will probably add myself to the list of pHp'ers.  Being in the IT profession, pHp here has a different meaning than what I am accustomed to!

Welcome.

IM me if you decide you want to be pHp.  Which is not the same as php, cfm, asp, jsp, css, html, js or xml.  Tongue

Welcome, when in Walcott fuel up at I-80 Truck Stop (Worlds Largest Truck Stop) and walk down to the Chrome Shop to check out the wall of lights. All kinds for the inside and the outside, neat old trucks all over too. Goose

Thanks for the tip on the truck stop, Goose! Looks like the dealer is right on the other side of I80. Will definitely drop in and check it out.

GaRedneck81, might just take you up on that. Will depend heavily on how our time looks getting back. This is going to be a crazy trip as far as distance covered and time allotted.

Best wishes for a safe and happy trip. I'd be interested in your gas mileage and towing capability of your Odyssey. We have a Toyota Sienna set up and we bought a 177 last Dec. Not used it yet. Not too bright to buy a trailer in the middle of winter when we can't use it and check it out. I got too excited, I guess.

We made it to Mt. Vernon, Il. last night and averaged 24.7 mpg not towing. Will update the thread today once we get hooked up and are towing back home.

So our first fill-up towing, we got 15.7 mpg which was about 75% of that tank. I expect it to get worse as the terrain here is pretty flat.

Congrats.  Most here usually get around 12 mpg so I'm surprised to see your number.

Yea, I am fully expecting to be in that range when the full tank is used while towing. I am not fully convinced, but I am trying mid-grade on this fill up.

Still going through Illinois and it is super flat terrain. We're maintaining 65mph.

11.8 mpg on the last fill up.

Just got home. It's been a manic trip taken at a frantic pace, but we brought her home safe and sound. I'll try to get some pics posted soon.

Congrats and welcome.  Lived in the ATL area about a dozen years, 10-in Woodstock (Town Lake).  Miss it for the warmer Spring, Fall and winter.

Good luck and enjoy.

Some notes about towing the R-Pod with a 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L.
I was able to drive without locking out overdrive(D3).  I installed a B&M plate and fin cooler for the transmission so I think it should prevent burning anything up.  I think I will add a gauge to indicate ATF temperature before the cooler.  Have not installed a power steering cooler and still don't think that I need one.
When we first towed it off the lot, the ride was very jerky, which we were able to solve mostly by adding 2 more links on the spring bars for the weight distribution system and loosening the anti-sway bars about an 1/8 of a turn each.
Used midgrade(89) octane for most of the trip.  When I switched to regular for a tank, the check engine light turned on about after going through about 3/4 tank.  Used my phone and bluetooth OBD2 dongle to read the code and found low O2 voltage on bank 2.  Switched back to midgrade and the light eventually cleared itself.
Braking seemed predictable, but I feel every pound of this trailer.
The rear suspension feels too soft so I am thinking about getting some adjustable air bags for the rear coil springs to help the load handling.

The Cheyenne Camping Center treated us to a celebratory bottle of champagne for our purchase.

All hitched up and ready to go

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas, but it sure looks like it

After a restful night in the R-Pod at a truck stop, we're ready to get back to Atlanta

Nice pics.  It might be an illusion, but in your 2nd pic it looks like the pod is a bit nose-up.  Its best to get that level or slightly nose-down, I've found nose-down to be best.

Yes that was before we added a couple of chain links to the weight distributing spring bars. In the latter pictures it looks pretty level.

Thanks, that's Chloe, but she ain't a puppy anymore.  She's about 8 years old now and is still getting to know the R-Pod(sniffing and poking around and finding a comfortable spot).
