We have been having a problem with our long term camping. Lately when our AC is on, it seems to pull the air in from the septic vent...so then the camper starts to smell of septic. It doesn't happen all the time,,,so we are confused. ------------- Paige and Pete 2010 177 - RPug 2012 Rav (six cylinder) New York & Florida residents

The air conditioning is a closed system. It doesn't draw air from outside into the trailer; it recirculates interior air. And... are you sure that you smell the sewage in the black tank? Or, could it be the fainter, muskier smell of your gray tank? The p-trap under the shower pan is fairly shallow and will empty while the trailer is moving. Negative pressure in the trailer (such as running the fan, or even open windows on a windy day) will draw gray water fumes up through the shower pan. Run some water down the shower drain when set up to refill your p-trap.

Didn't know about the shallow trap under the shower, I'll have to check that out too. We've encountered the occasional smell and never figured it out.

There was a thread about sewer smell some time back, and I don't recall how that was resolved.

I've mostly noticed it when stopping for lunch while travelling, particularly if its hot and I've left a window or the roof vent cracked open while going down the highway. I put a rubber-backed mat in the shower pan to somewhat seal it. Bonus: when camped, it keeps people wearing shoes in the head from getting dirt all over the shower. | Hello all, we are new owners of a 2010 R-POD and we have taken it out now several times the longest be ing six nights. We still have things to learn but for the most part all goes well. My favorite part is camping at the Florida State Parks that have full sewer hook-ups! Florida has beautiful and well kept parks. |

There are deodorizers that you add to the tanks after dumping or in between dumps to cut the smell. Some are natural products and some are not. The name of the one that we use I don't remember right now and I have to go to Wal-Mart to pick up some more as we are out. All of the camping stores and Wal-Mart have products for this.
We did stay in a nice campground in Sedona, AZ. that required you to use only natural additives to the tanks for odor control. Goose ------------- Mother Goose's Caboose..2011 RP171..07 Grand Cherokee
