Insure all valves in correct position as shown in the de-winterizing doc on this forum. Fill water tank, turn on water pump and let run for a while, maybe until quiet, can't remember. Then turn on hot water taps ... sink, then shower, then sink, then shower .... water will sputter as air is removed from the pipes. After water flows without sputter you can turn off the sink (leaving water pump on), turn on water heater and check that you have HOT water. ------------- RPodWeGo RPod 177 04 v8 Toyota 4Runner |

All this assumes we aren't talking about flushing antifreeze from the system. If you are using your fresh water holding tank, fill it first. Turn the pump on. If you are using a hook up, hook up and skip the pump. Then turn on the cold water at the sink and the shower to purge the air out of the lines. Do the toilet too. Turn off the cold water and the pump. Replace the anode in the water heater if it is out. Set the valves at the hot water heater for summer usage; top and bottom valves open, middle valve closed. Turn the pump back on and turn on the hot water at the sink and the shower until it runs water with no air. Top off the fresh water tank if you are using that and turn off the pump. Done. Note that with the pump switch on, the pump still only runs on demand. If, when the faucets are turned off, the pump still cycles off and on, you need to check for freeze damage to your plumbing. Just hook up to the city water supply, or fill your fresh water tank and turn on the pump, make sure the three bypass valves are not set to bypass, and turn on the hot water tap in the sink or shower. The flow will fill the lines and heater. As far as flushing anti freeze.. there shouldn't be any in the HW tank. That is the whole, and only, purpose of the bypass valve system. ------------- |

That's true, but if there is antifreeze in the system you want to flush it before flipping the bypass valves and filling the water heater or you may end up with antifreeze in the water heater tank. I guess that wouldn't be the end of the world, but it would be significantly annoying.
